I don't think some people are getting the thrust of casey's argument, not surprising given that he is fairly inarticulate even in australian english and has such poor public relations skills. What I think casey is saying is that valentino decided to pass him in the corkscrew come what may( which I personally think is more than likely not the case) and that he chose not to be crashed into when he was in a position on the track to which he was entitled. Whilst admitting it was his own fault when he eventually put the ducati down he also said he could have crashed into rossi if he had so chosen which seems likely to be true. It would actually have been to his advantage in terms of his season vs valentino to have done so. Among his considerations apart from that he probably does think this is not the way to race is that he rates dani pedrosa as a credible threat whilst valentino apparently does not. I think "we'll see " in australian english is a clear statement that he may not have the same attitude next time if valentino gives him the choice of let me past or crash, and may offer valentino a similar choice in the reverse situation. I trust all you fans of close/hard racing will maintain a consistent attitude in this circumstance

.

I accept this line of argument is invalid if valentino was off line into the corkscrew because of a previous move by casey where he nudged valentino by putting his bike into a position to which he (casey) was not entitled, as roger and babel seem to be arguing. If this is not the case, I think it is still likely a racing incident, but cannot be classified as one of valentino's greatest passes in that it involved a riding error and that ultimate success was contingent on casey's quick reaction and not under valentino's control.

The corkscrew imbroglio aside, I don't think casey has cause for complaint for any other passes.

In a previous decade and in regard to a different sport I was a proust rather than a senna fan

Ladies, are we really going to have an argument on a forum about how tough we are? Maybe later we can talk about who can change their oil the quickest or who has the most tools on their toolbelt.

I am with you on the ducati thing, but I would suggest you look at roger's cinematic/ music video foray before you dismiss him entirely. Appearances can obviously be deceptive, but central casting did make a judgement.

Stoner blames tyre troubles for slump

By Matt Beer Sunday, September 14th 2008, 22:27 GMT

Casey Stoner said a fading rear tyre prevented him from pushing harder in the Indianapolis Grand Prix.

The reigning world champion grabbed the lead at the start but then lost pace and ultimately finished a distant fourth in the red-flagged and rain-affected race.

"I'm never going to be satisfied with fourth place but it would have been foolish to push harder in those conditions and I made the right decision not to do so," Stoner said.

"I got a good start but I quickly lost confidence because the rear tyre was tearing up quickly and by the time they stopped the race I was struggling to hold my lap times."

Team boss Livio Suppo wasn't sure why Stoner had encountered tyre problems, but was relieved that he brought the bike home fourth despite his issues.

"It was a tough race for Casey but he showed grit and determination to bring home a decent result," Suppo said.

"It may be to do with the power delivery of our engine or the set-up of the bike but the rear tyre went off quicker than expected and Casey couldn't ride on the attack, as we're used to seeing. It's a shame it wasn't a dry race because in the warm-up we saw Casey was in good shape for those conditions."

With Valentino Rossi winning the race, Stoner is now 87 points behind his title rival in the standings with only four rounds remaining.
