You can lean slightly, but try taking your hands off the bars and leaning the bike using just your body weight - it's pretty damn hard, and almost impossible when you get some speed up.

It feels a bit weird at first when you do it consciously, but it's amazing how quick you can turn a bike at speed when you get used to it. I honestly don't know how I ever managed to ride before I learnt about it.

Its easy if you are going slow

personally id say i use this technique as follows:

60 % is going into the corner by countersteering, 40% by using my body(weight).

its amazing how many riders who ride 4 years dont know this thing!!!

but after many years im doing it youre not thinking about it...it simply works, U just do it.
today i couldnt imagine going without...a combination of BOTH is the fastest way to get your bike into the corner quite late.

I's also the quickest way to flick the bike in a given direction, and lift it up out of a corner. I reckon most riders are counter-steering practically form day one without even realizing it.

Once you become conscious of it, you can start to deploy it for other means, and then it simply becomes a function of the sub-conscious again.

thats very true yes!

i have to say: perhaps when i dont go too fast (sitting STRAIGHT on the bike) i use CS to do 80% of the job! but when i ride with hang off (which i can do perfect with knee down to be honest, but i put my body and ... to the side of the bike) i use it 50 or 60%.

I don't mean that slow! Just at town speeds you can lean a bike without counter steering. It's just easy and more natural to just counter steer.
