LEICESTER CITY FOOTBALL CLUB CHAMPIONS OF THE WORLD

They won the world title today and I was cheering for them because of this forum. I would have never followed soccer without the friendships made here. I became a Southampton FC fan because of Roger, and Shrewsbury Town FC because of Willski, and a Leicester City FC fan because of Arrabi. Today I celebrate a world championship.

For those who don't follow top flight soccer, this title is as if a team finishing regularly outside the top 20 would win the MotoGP title. Would that ever be possible in GP? Could a team rider perform with such synergy that a racing title could be won over a season?

This championship will transcend all sports and walks of life. It will be talked about for years and years to come. So how does this apply to MotoGP? This is more unlikely than the Miracle on Ice or any one off upset in sporting history because it was done over a season. The achievement cannot be overstated!

I know nothing about soccer, but im assuming like most stick and ball sports, acquiring a couple of elite players from one season to the other can turn a perennial doormat into a contender over night. Is this what happened here. More unlikely than the Miracle on Ice, thats a pretty heady statement there. Again though, i know nothing about the sport.

Congrats to Leicester on the prem title, not bought like some have, just a hard working team with a great characteristic manager. I can only hope the overpaid prima donnas of MU, Chelski and the other team from the other side stand up and take notice, and the England team too !!!

No mate, Leicester played with a same players, they had last season. Mahrez and Vardy their top performers this year, were not even a regular starters in their position last season. It's like more than one factors combined along with the dip in form of regulars like Chelsea, man Utd, arsenal and Man city (in the order of their purple patch).

The motogp race governing body would definitely drop the ball and modify or bring in new regulations, pushing the underdog challenger further down the grid.

I'll get back to you on this as I'm headed out to drink some champagne at the closes bar I can find. But frankly Povol, this astonishing achievement will be difficult to put into perspective. No they didn't go out an acquire new expensive players, this is a tiny market team. They were in the minor leagues two years ago, and last year they escaped "relegation" (demotion) back into the minor leagues at the last possible moment in the season. Arrabi and others will try to describe how remarkable this accomplishment is in terms of top flight sports, it will sound like exaggeration to be honest. I struggle to even put it in MotoGP terms.

Maybe in a couple of days Arrabi can write something up, if he survives the celebrations. But you will hear about this in the mainstream media today for sure, in America, that is how much this is a stunning accomplishment.

Povol, imagine a Miracle on Ice 36 times.

There's nothing even comparable to this.

Well maybe the best GP analogy I can think of is if Randy Mamola won the world championship for Cagiva...in 1988 or 1989.

Or if Nicky Hayden won the world title in 2015 on that piece of .... Honda.

Not likely, football is a sport played by teams of 11 men, some of those men may be technically better than others but they are still men. To win in football you need a team of men with good ability, great teamwork and great spirit, to win in MotoGP, you need a great machine under you.

And a great team too, can't do it on your own.

Actually Kropo, you make an excellent point!

Just bought the whole bar a drink, raised a glass to Leicester! They had absolutely no idea who they are, dumb .......s. We started with champagne, we're moving on to shot.

(Fair warning, if I say something that may offend any of you later, my apologies beforehand. )

I guess this is big, the betting odds were 5000 to 1. It was kind of a joke to put out that figure, but it ended up costing bookies 25 million so far.

Same odds in finding the Loch Ness Monster. I .... you not.

In fairness, this is not similar to Casey winning the 2007 world title.

Shocking as that title was, Ducati had the cash and they had the Marlboro money behind them. That made it possible to build a possible contending bike.

A legitimate 2nd tier satellite team without the semi-factory status (Tech 3, LCR, Pramac) winning might be far closer.

Mamola winning a world title on that Cagiva would be close. Or maybe even Kocinski shocking Doohan in 1994 on the Cagiva and winning a number of races instead of just the season opener to take the title.

....... cheap ......., go buy a large bottle of Moet Chandon if you're going to drink champagne in celebration instead a bottle smaller than Wilski's .....

Closest to this was probably Kim Newcombe against the MVs on his inhouse special.
Ducati were underdogs, but hardly poor.
The amount of cash sloshing around the EPL astounds me. A minnow of a club with £60mill (correct me if wrong) player list?

Willski wishes his .... was this large.

I came to the first bar I could find, it's a dive bar. I was lucky they had champagne, $5 a glass. Hapoy hour. But these fuckes have a serious tequila selection. Seriously, this is all they have. Might get some don perion later bro.

Better load up on the tequila and then roll to a classier joint for some Dom.

Do I have to be the first one to point out that they only won the domestic league of England?
