If anybody ever has questioned Valentino's media/public/fanbase savvy, this should dispel all your doubts.

Rossi still in a laughing mood

Tuesday, 24 April 2012 18:11 by rm

The episode will air on April 25th, but here is a sneak preview. It's almost incredible to see Valentino Rossi like this; without a race suit and helmet, but instead wearing an elegant black suit and tie. The Doctor was dressed up for an appearance on a popular Italian television show, where he jokingly played the role of reporter for an interview with his father Graziano.

Valentino: What do you think about this difficult period?

Graziano: "Considering what they have to work with, they will come out of it."

V: And what do they have to work with?

G: "The bike is a Ducati, and I'd say that you cannot question their ability to build race bikes. The rider is Valentino, and right now, in my opinion, he is more on form than ever. With a bit of luck, they will turn things around by halfway through the season, or maybe even sooner."

V: Why haven't they had any success yet?

G: "Because the bike was completely new at the beginning. Now the bike is equal to all the others. I don't see why Valentino, who has sorted out 3, 4 or 5 other bikes, can't get this one figured out together with the help of the Ducati staff."

V: What must Ducati do to make the bike easier for Valentino to ride?

G: "The engine must be easier to use, and the weight distribution must be changed to cure the understeer."

V: Would you like to say something to Filippo Preziosi?

G: "I'd like to compliment him on this engine, which is really fast. I'd also like to tell him that useability is very important now, and even more than outright performance."

V: Would you like to offer Valentino some advice?

G: (laughing) "Now he needs to be tougher than ever before. He needs absolute conviction, and to commit himself fully. Even if things aren't going well, he absolutely cannot give up or give in. This is not the time to quit."

V: So Valentino shouldn't leave Ducati?

G: "Valentino can't walk away from this project in this moment. This is a challenge that Valentino must win together with Ducati."

V: What would you tell fans that want to see him race Biaggi again, in World Superbike?

G: "Valentino is always keeping a close eye on WSBK, but there are probably another 2, 3 or 4 years of MotoGP racing to be done before he can get on a SBK."

V: Thanks. And say 'hello' to Valentino when you see him.

Uhm.... he's interviewing his dad about himself buddy.

I think its brilliant.

My wife saw this before I did and passed it on saying, "check out Vale's damage control"!! Media savvy unquestioned.

lol, some of them q'tions near the bottom, is he trying to tell us when he plans to retire?

Genius. Tongue firmly in cheek but sending out a message.

Exactly. Dude is smart. Knows how to get a message out while it being non threatening, amusing, entertaining, but informative. The man knows how to work a crowd.

It's quite funny watching the humour flying over so many folks heads.

This is why we need Rossi at the front, nobody since Sheene has won races an made headlines to anything like the level Rossi has.

Sadly his natural successor fell at Sepang, and what so many on here fail to see, is that without these guys we will go back to as Arrab describes 3 men an a dog watching Doohan.

I have followed BSB for years an it was never better than when Haslam came back on the JPS Norton, or Niall Mack came home on the Boost Yam.

Nobody out there at the mo outside of Rossi and Jorge (in Spanish speaking countries) can give motogp the hike it needs.

Love it or hate it, it's healthy for the sport.

Why don't you analyze the audio, you might find the genetically concurrent resonant frequency which ticks you off so much.........let us know the results

This is absolutely brilliant, as was the other appearance on Italian TV when Rossi said he was most deserving of a 'Razza'......... much like the 'Donkey' livery, much like 'the run to the portaloo'...... stating the fact of the matter in a way which is most appealing-and the admission of fault/failure, which other riders can certainly learn from, no one does it better

lets hope he can now also get back to what he does best on track.

I thought it was pretty clever

What surprised me is that WSBK was mentioned as a possibility in a few years.

I never thought Rossi would entertain the notion of stepping down to super,s but by the answer it seems he feels it would be good way to wind down your career

I was laughing when i read that part because the Rossis never turn down an opportunity to take a wise crack at Max.
<
I submit it was another crack at Biaggi. Take a look at the quote again. Like father like son, Rossi took a crack at Biaggi when he won the Wsbk title, saying to the effect, 'not bad for an old guy has-been.' I think here its the same. When hes 'old and past it' ("2,3 or 4 years"), he may consider Wsbk, but we know he WON'T.

Haha........ even better

Thats hilarious

Indeed. The guy reminds me of your typical smarmy politician. Everything is cold-bloodedly calculated ahead of time, and then delivered in a carefully controlled manner that is supposed to feel all golly-shucks folksy and non-threatening. I call BS!

I agree..........masterful use of media, to retrieve a very sticky situation.

After saying that "I cannot ride this bike", it was a matter of urgency to minimise the damage done by those comments.

For all of Casey,s supposed tactlessness, I do not recall him once saying anything quite so damaging about the Ducati brand, even though there were periods in 2008-2010 where he was clearly uncompetitive and with no chance of a podium.

Humour flew over my head, what humour? It all seams serious in content. Must be the 25% Scottish blood still to be weened out of my veins. Its like poison that stuff, ..... makes me miserable even on the sunniest day at the beach.

Nobody out there at the mo............what about the adventures of Cal, dropping F bombs on twitter after his garbage bin gets stolen is always good for a chuckle. Cal is fast becoming my fav personality.

Great way to put more pressure on Ducati to finally ditch the point and shoot bike strategy. The "hero" still has 3-4 years left in him and we all know you guys are good enough to bring him back.
