<{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>he will be, just give him a ride able bike and hayden will be at the front, right now he on the progress for the duc so if he already comfortable with the duc, my guess that he can back for the front guy and challenge for wc so someday will be ducati vs ducati like now Yamaha vs Yamaha so we can watch skill vs skill
Once (if) hayden gets back to the level of comfort he was at on the 990 repsol he will be a regular podium contender. Neither hayden nor stoner has exceptional racecraft when compared to the fiat boys, my opinion of course. A straight up duel between the two will be exciting to watch, even if it is over 3rd or 4th place.
I had hoped philip island last year would be a fight between the two but hayden was riding over his weekend pace (superb ride nonetheless in those opening laps) and he couldn't catch Stoner, let alone the michelins falling apart later in the race. Hayden's racecraft isn't bad. As of late he has been patient in his (rare) passing maneuvers and most are textbook moves, nothing inventive or exceptional, but effective. Stoner also has good racecraft, and underrated in my opinion. He tends to play it safe and chooses to maximize the ducati's strengths over the japanese bikes, passing on straights when he still had that advantage, rather than try anything too radical. This orthodoxy of his racecraft is why I think people tend to overlook his skill in that area.
The first question is if Hayden can up his lapping pace to that of stoners. I am not sure if this is in the near future. If we assume it is then the second question is if Hayden really can get comfortable enough this year to risk a battle up front rather than settle for a solid 4th/5th place. At Assen he tried his hand at battling, albeit midpack, but the comfort wasn't there and he made a mistake under pressure and slid out. If he can sort out his lapping pace, then Philip Island this year might just be the place for a stoner/hayden battle (in a dream world it would be for the lead but a podium fight isn't bad). I am really curious how Indy is for a back and forth battle and whether there would be enough overtaking spots for the motogp bike.
Long story short, for a battle a rider needs to be fast AND comfortable, asking him to achieve both so soon might be much.
