Burgess interview (on Stoner, Honda and the gearbox) / Casey Interview (on Honda, the move from Duca

You obviously have a different view of sporting karma than I do, and while I am hoping for stoner to succeed quite probably as much as you are, I wish you would stop counting chickens in general, particularly before the results of at least several of the european races.

You do realise that it is me thats going off the chicken's that are currently hatched don't you

You are essentially telling me it will all turn around, ie. you are indeed counting the chickens before they are hatched
<

I don't deny Rossi may do it though ..... nor even say he will never do it. But frankly I like to see the chickens hatch first

This is Simo's second year on a Honda, it is also Stoners second year on a Honda. Both finished 8th in their rookie season on customer Honda's, lets see how they finish this year on factory equipment.

Thanks 4 that,

I think if Stoner can keep a clear head and his nose in front he will win the champ. If the boys start to duff him up a bit he will start falling off. this is going to be a fun year either way.

Well come the forum.

I wouldn't say "failed". As a rookie he finished 6th in his first ever MotoGP race and then backed that up with a pole position in Qatar where he finished 5th. The following race at Turkey, he finished just one off the win in 2nd. Sure, he had several falls, but he also had several good showings as a rookie, and finished the year 8th in the championship on the LCR.

I wont dig up the interview but I posted it way back in....whenever. Stoner spoke very darkly of the tyres he got from Michelin in 2006, it was a well known practice back then that the showcase riders got the good tyres and the others got tyres of a lesser standard. The change to the Bridgestone control tyre makes it quite difficult to compare the two seasons.

We also have to place the historical context as such, were it not for Stoner in 2007 we would still have two (or more - Dunlop dabbled) tyre manufacturers, In 2007 when Casey won it was Bridgestone First and then the next 4 or 5 bikes were Michelin shod. The field has evened up now in terms of tyre quality.

Also, there was a budget comparison back then and the LCR Honda was the most underfunded and supported Honda out there, it was really a third tier bike.

The only way we can compare them is equal bikes and tyres this season. Simo has always done well and is a great rider, time will tell but the season comparison is fundamentally flawed.

Simo has both talent AND competition.

I would however predict the more likely scenario is that as the Ducati gets up to speed Rossi and other Ducati riders will begin displacing him in the top 5, as will Spies, who in pre season testing showed he was the consistently faster Yamaha factory rider on average using the race tyres in race simulation conditions (runs of multiple laps).

Lorenzo's second place (showed great race craft) and Rossi's 7th place (on the Poocati) were (IMO) far more impressive rides than any of the factory Honda's out there apart from Stoner.

31 days to Jerez, all the Ducati has to do is turn and the Yamaha has to find some extra power and then those other factory Honda's will not be able to line up as easily in the Honda procession that was the first race.

Jumkie, Barry et al will probably slap me for saying so, but I see Rossi and Lorenzo as far greater threats to Stoner than any of the other Honda riders

Thanks,

I take it back, failed was a strong term.

I agree never write JB and Rossi off, he should be able to win 5 or 6 races this year. if the others swap podium positions enough to keep the points spread nice and wide, then he can win the 10th title.

This would send Mat Oxly and the commentators into orbit!

Why is Toni Elías doing so badly? this seems out of the ordenry

Both of these would be the biggest miracle since the Immaculate Conception
