Out of Nowhere
Declared a dry race but ...... conditions and rain falling on the circuit. Shakey on full slicks.

EDIT: Start delayed, rain on start/finish straight. Raining heavily out of the back of the circuit. Riders changing from slicks.

Fifth different winner in five races - well done Kirkham, who really put the hammer down on those last two laps after Hopkins showed he wasn't done. Hopper probably would have had this one had the pace car not come out, although Shakey who was lamb to the slaughter out front on slicks had obviously slowed to avoid doing Gibernau circa Estoril '05. After the blow up he looked almost relieved not to still be out there. Great to see Lowes up there on the Evo bike which clearly benefitted from the softer power and his choice of intermediates. Also good to see a series that actually permits the choice of intermediates in such atrocious conditions

Also great to see the very talented Gary Mason back in the mix.

Kirkham now topping the fastest lap table..

Hopefully Race 2 will be a dry one.

....and it was. Thank God for that.

Bit of a formality for Shakey. Excellent ride by Easton, shades of the late great Hizzy. Good weekend overall for Hopper, and unfortunate second race for Kirkham. Very close at the top for Shakey, Hopper and Easton - Kiyo slipping back in the standings. This'll be a weekend he'll want to forget, which of course he can under the rules.

Ride of the weekend - the injured Tommy Hill.

Bit gutted for Shakey in the first race.

A decent battle for 2nd in the second once Byrne had done one, definatly good ride from Hill.

Good stuff, as usual. I think this is the best series in the world at the moment. Just about every race has been exciting and there's a group of about six or more who could potentially win at every weekend.

Agreed mate. Never a dull moment !!!

The hand that giveth, taketh away. Hopper benefited from a safety car last round, but this round he was burned by the safety car in Race 1. Great ride by Gary Mason in the first race, and by Kirkham of course. Five races, five winners. Good racing. Laverty and Kiyo really did the field a big favor by making a bad tire choice. Byrne was robbed by a bad engine.

Race 2 was a much different affair. Laverty did the field a favor again (by increasing the gap to 6th place). Kirkham got the raw end of the deal, but it was a racing incident, imo. Byrne ran the show from the front, while Easton charged to be best of the rest. Solid points again by Hopper, which is nice to see.

Observations:

Every year I forget how nice the British tracks are, and every year I get to remember how nice it is to see tracks with character instead of glorified superslabs built by bureaucrats who want to preen in front of TV cameras.

I think Byrne's explosion might be a result of the new Showbiz rules. The first 9 rounds are relatively useless b/c it is more about managing points and avoiding mistakes. If the first 9 rounds aren't as useful, why not run the engines a bit longer or leave off a few performance parts? It was a wet race so I suppose the engine could have been spinning up too quickly if the traction control wasn't working terribly well, but I still imagine that more teams will be cutting costs as much as possible without losing touch.

Well i finally got to see both races. Im posting from iphone, so pretty much what u guys say above r my thots. Good stuff. Ive never seen a racer as happy not to b in it as Byrne, btw. I was impressed by Hopper, he really hasnt disappointed, and i feel a bit vindicated as ive sung his praises for a long time with nothing to show for it. But i can say up to this point, hes shown to be a front runner in a competitive field. I dont think hes ever been to Croft (and sure as hell never been to Oulton). I agree with Lex, Brit tracks r cool. Reminds me of a trackday track.

Im also struck by what looks to b decent attendance. I was at a cold race this weekend on Sunday, it might as well been a ghost town.

BSB its Still doing the business

as usually you can see why i'll pay to go and watch this and not motogp

Hoppers a dark horse and doing very well as a total newb at these tracks as such.

mishaps & mechanicals bad riding might keep it close all year again.

Can we hav a few national-series-transatlantic races? Wouldnt that be cool? BSB vs AMA. One race in US tge other UK. (i know, impossible bcuz of spec, but just a thot).
