Best rider never to win a world title?

Randy Mamola has to be the main contender for this, 13 wins and 57 podiums is a very respectable total, and yet he never won a world title.

In World Superbikes, Nori definitely should have won a world title when you look at his record. He was unlucky in 02 and last year, and probably should have won both. Vermuelen is also a bit lucky not to have won a wsb championship too.

I can't think of any more off the top of my head.

For me its definately Randy Mamola, he's been second more times than anyone if i'm not mistaken. In the superbike world Aaron Slight came close as many times as Nori and it never happened for him.

Alex de Angelis springs to mind, maybe not world championship material but should definitely have more race wins under his belt.

It must be so hard to identify the problem when a rider can get so close to something without achieving it.

Sete Gibernau, the only rider to really take it to Rossi, I know Hayden and Stoner are champions but they never pushed rossi in a race.
He even took it to him when he was on the the Repsol bike.
If it were not for Rossi then Sete would be multipal world champion and as for Mamola hes just a ...... tool.

Sete only "Pushed" for the title twice, half that of Mamola. Does this mean nothing? To speculate that Sete's performance would have been identical in the absence of Rossi is also a long shot, i'm not convinced myself

Randy Mamola is definatly the best MotoGP/500cc rider to never win the title.

In World Superbikes there are three riders who are difficult to decide between them being Nori Haga, Aaron Slight and Frankie Chili who have all deserved at least one world championship each but never got one.

Randy Mamolas

I recall Capirossi pushing Rossi very hard in many races, I think that he might be included.

well biaggi never managed it

Ummm.... I know this is going to sound really stupid, but I think that Chris Walker is one of the best riders to never win a championship. Don't get me wrong, Mammola and Haga are higher on the list for sure but I think that Kawi has really screwed Walker's career a little. Everyone always says that Walker was always too point and shoot but I have seen that guy change his style and lines in the middle of a race and be quick either way. Also Garry McCoy. More bike control than anyone I have ever seen.

Sete was in the repsol team back when Criville was who won the title that year I believe, so thats a crap excuse
<

And yep it means a world title of any kind... if it was just the premier class, I'd put Biaggi, Capirossi and maybe even Pedrosa on it

Then why list World Supersport Champion Vermeulen in your first post?

Your cant say Sete was on a repsol bike back when criville won ? That was a 500 2 stroke ! In my post it says Sete was the only man to really push rossi when was on the RCV211.
So Sete would gone well on the 4 sroke Repsol bike.
