wow, i'm impressed.. that's quite the tip of the hat. i do think he'll do well.. he's definitely up there its just how quickly can he learn those tracks.. i mean that took him a year or two here in the ama, so i'm not expecting miracles, but i'm sure when it's all working he'll be there.

on a side but related note.. how many wsbk tracks are mapped out on video games?, i dunno about you all but because of the gran turismo and motogp video games, i feel like i could run a 1:20 on laguna seca

Nice nod, I hope he's right. But something tells me it will be Haga and the Brits. Spies, though fast has way too much to learn. The tracks for one will be the greatest challenge. I say Spies will be up there but more like top 5.

Something tells me he has been doing some offseason espionage

In regards to Spies, he has certainly shown his ability to quickly adapt, I expect him to do the same throughout the season at the various circuits. I think a top 5 overall in his first year would be outstanding.

I would have picked Haga as a definite shoe-in for the championship if he was still on the Yamaha. As it stands right now the Ducati/Haga mix is still a bit unproven in my eyes to make a for sure call on him winning the overall. That said he is still my pick for overall as he is one of my favorite riders.

It's things like this that make WSBK so exciting this year. So much new blood that are showing impressive speed (Byrne, Spies, Sykes, Rea), race proven winners coming back on their same rides (Neukirchner, Checa, Kiyo, Fabrizio), along with all the vets on new rides (Biaggi, Nakano, Haga, Corser, Xaus). I seriously can't wait for PI to get here any sooner.

Cautious modesty perhaps? Something tells me it'll be Haga and Spies, but i really hope the Brits can be a force. I'm still wondering what level the Honda is at since the new generation blade came out. It's results have been so inconsistent that i really don't know whether to question the bike or the riders.

Think he'll do well enough to impress the reasonable person, but its a bit much to expect him to win a championship against season vets who know the tracks and circus very well. This is a very competitive series. We know who the winners were last year, but on any given race weekend it could have just as easily been two or three other guys (who only came tenths from the winner). Learning the tracks is gonna be his major obstacle.

As far as Haga, yeah I agree he's the favored. But he's managed to screw it up before. I like the guy because he's not a complainer, is willing to scrap and rub yet safe, and races on the edge but usually very clean. I like his sense of respect on the podium. Having said that, he puts it on the line too much sometimes and screws up his points by DNFing. Perhaps this year is the year he realizes that points is how titles are won.

Spies will be up there, but I don't see how his talent can overcome the experience of the vets who already where challenging for wins against the likes of Bayliss.

I think he can be a serious threat. Many race circuits are similar to the US circuits he has run.

Because you missjudge the level of his talent??

I like Haga too and wish him well. Although anyone that will keep circulating the track while they know they are spreading oil all over the place and black flagged has got a screw lose in there somewhere.

Perhaps. I hope you are right. I do think Spies is very talented and as you have read, I have been a defender of his on the forum even though I don't consider myself a fan of his.

Yes, about Haga's oil incident. I recall I flamed him for that. Hence why I used the word "usually" in my last post.

Now, if in the event Spies does win or comes within the top three at the end of the classification, then I'd say the man is a genius. And of course, as I have argued at nauseam, those who failed to sign him are ........). But then again, perhaps WSBK is the new "premier" class.

Top Five for me

As named before there are about 10-12 possible race winners so if he can come out top 5 of those then that would be a feat in itself.

As named in previous threads there are too many factors to make an accurate judgement call on this one so I can understand your hesitancy in claiming him the next champion.

Withstanding Daytona and Cali, many of the tracks are similar. Not as safe or off track amenities, but Barber is a lot like Donington Park. VIR is alot like Doninginton Park. Alot like the Nurburgring.

Oh, that is "many"? Uhm okay.

The similarities they have is they have turns and straights and are made of pavement. Other than that, I'm not buying it. Do you remember the first year MotoGP returned to Laguna? They gave the riders and extra practice session on Friday to learn the track. This being Laguna, where many of the riders had actually already ridden it and a track that could be said it is similar to PI. Now why would they do that? So you're saying that learning ALL the tracks in a season is not that big a deal in regards to the challenge Spies has to deal with? Dude.

Rookie of the year is the standard aim for any top rookie, which spies definitely is. With him and a few other rookies being on capable machinary being the best rookie would probably come with a top 3 overall.

spies winning the championship this season is a strech. he's got a lot of new stuff to get used too. new tracks new team new bike alot of flying & alot more competition than just one other guy. top 5 would be excellent & i think he's capable in season 1.

I thought Bayliss would be honest and say "whoever has the big bore Duke, it's worked for me and Foggy"

Looks like Haga San then.
