Ok , most of you would have seen highlights of the Assen GP by now so who was at fault for the clash between Rossi and Marquez?
Should Marquez have won or was it a fair result?

Have you been reading the Assen thread? Hahah

IMO - Rossi won. End of story. He was in front in the chicane, got pushed by MM.

Was Rossi just suppose to crash? It's racing, you do what you can to get ahead.

If race direction would have given the win to Marquez,
It would have opened the door to everybody in the future allowing them to ram the leader and take the win.

If MurderMac had somehow gotten ahead and Rossi finished 2nd due to the battering ram, they probably would have given MM a time penalty to put him back behind J-Lo.

It could never ever be MM's fault, ever. Marc sent the memo. I guess you didn't receive it.

And it couldn't possibly be Rossi's fault because he's the "GOAT".

.... it, I blame the Dutch.

I actually think Rossi was at fault for the contact because I do think Rossi saw Marquez, but Marquez was never ahead so  Rossi got to cut the chicane for the win.

Marquez got played by a more sophisticated sportsman. Old age and treachery will always beat youth and exuberance. Youth and treachery is apparently just annoying as hell.

Uhm...is this not exactly what has been race direction's message since over 10 years? Ram, last lap, it's legal and fair. A message that gave Marc the well founded impunity to punt Lorenzo (Jerez) and attempted punt of Rossi (Assen).

If race direction wanted to issue the message you contend, I think they would have issued this statement:

'In the past we have erroneously allowed riders to ram the leaders, it's happened twice at Jerez, and other examples are available, however this body will no longer allow it. Marquez will be sanctioned with a race ban and disqualified from the Assen result, and we will officially be putting everyone on notice that any future attempts to win a race by the dubious and exceedingly dangerous tactic of torpedoing the leader is outside acceptable racecraft. There are plenty of opportunities to overtake the leader cleanly throughout the course of a race distance, so this strategy will no longer be tolerated.' Race Direction

Carmelo: "Furthermore, Valentino Rossi will never be allowed to ride again, retrospectively be stripped of all championships, and we want our ....... championship winners prize money back. He shall be banished to the nearest party popper factory and not given the adequate gas mask and filter, so as to be left to flounder in flaccid rectal hell with that other cheating yellow ......., Neil Armstrong or whatever his ....... name is..."

Valentino: "Heh heh heh"

Carmelo: "Valentino! Death by popper is supposed to be a punishment!!!"

Love this. I have always been a strong advocate of punishing one person harshly in motorsport, for the rest will never dare to follow. As you say, all it would take is one person. I would say a ban MAY have been too extreme in the Assen incident, but say it was deemed appropriate then all it takes it for MM is get stripped of the Assen result and banned for one race, and you bet your ... no-one would try any Kamarcazi style moves ever again.

From Crash.net. Lorenzo has chimed in and sided with Rossi.

Jorge Lorenzo says his Movistar Yamaha team-mate Valentino Rossi was the rightful winner of the Dutch TT at Assen following his final chicane clash with Marc Marquez.

MotoGP World Championship leader Rossi picked his M1 up and powered through the gravel after contact was made with Marquez, who attempted a pass on the brakes on the final lap.

In the post-race press conference, Lorenzo refused to be drawn on his opinion on the incident, but having now seen the replay a number of times, the Spaniard says Rossi had no choice to cut the corner.

“It is true, after the race I couldn't make an answer because I didn't see it during the race,” Lorenzo said.

“Now I have seen it a few more times, to be honest, it is true that you cannot go straight and on to the gravel normally, but the contact from Marc was huge.

“Vale entered the chicane in the first position, so in my opinion he deserved the win this time.”

Lorenzo's run of four straight premier class wins was halted at Assen as he finished third but the double MotoGP world champion added on MotoGP.com that he hopes to make more inroads at the Sachsenring in Germany next weekend, where Lorenzo is yet to win.

“Every year I go there with the idea of getting the first win, but it's complicated. There are riders who are very fast on the circuit, [Dani] Pedrosa for example; Marquez also,” he said.

“It is more suitable for a Honda, as it is a more stop and go circuit with slow corners. It is a track where maybe our bike lacks a bit, as we cannot take advantage of our good cornering in faster turns.

“I managed several second places there and have been close to winning in the past. Who knows, maybe this year we can get our first victory.

"In Assen, we found some things that made it hard for us to be fast, especially in two sectors, but we managed to salvage third place and not lose many points to Valentino,” he added

“Hopefully the next race in Germany will go much better.”

Lorenzo also described Yamaha's new frame, which he used along with Rossi at Assen, as 'positive for every [Yamaha] rider'.

“It is positive for every rider, it gives us a little bit more traction especially when the rear tyre starts to drop, so it's a positive thing,” he said.

“It's not a big thing, but a little bit better and will give us a small advantage.”

chicane

Val won it fair and square

If you watch the replay closely from Vals rear facing camera as MM pushes to get drive off the corner before the chicane he slides just a tad and has to adjust. Sans that slip he would have had max drive more position when he and Val inevitably touched and we would have had a fracas that would have lasted the rest of the season.

I think that it isn't about intentions here but I think attitudes play their part. No one rider has ever one every race. Why? cause as great as they are its racing crap appens. Work backwards 46 had pole, 99 was on a trot and 93 had two dnfs with no one to blame but... Self for his talented inexperience another disappointing result boohoo marquez will be a short career if he really gets so full of the praise that he thinks hes 1 invincible 2 unbeatable 3 cant accept his own f@%k ups and blames others for a result he created he has clipped 46 before and crashed for it. Reading comments who'd win stoner or marquez I do wonder but I won't speculate racing is racing and no one has ever won every race marquez has a long way to go to equal Rossi achievements a long waaaayyyyyy. Throw in Lorenzo and whatever new talent that WILL arise I don't think we will see it again. The mere fact they all had too chase the old guy and work hard for it proves one thing he is worthy of respect on track and at high speeds like assen your kidding yourself if you think Rossi planned anything 93 needs to get over it cause 46 and 99 will beat him again fair and square cause hey they got talent too you know.

Marquez hit Rossi while Rossi was slightly ahead, Honda team saw that in the recordings, they havent filed a complaint against Rossi's win cause they saw what they saw in the recordings, end of story.

93 had two dnfs with no one to blame but... Self for his talented inexperience .

Inexperience?
He's been in the premier group nearly 3 years, Its a lot more than some of them who ride responsibly, Marquez is IMO a thug on a bike.

Oh come on now :) ...Vale took the bump, picked it up, wheelied across the gravel bit accelerating, cut the course......and somehow 'won' the race. I'm not convinced!
