Anyone from the UK travelling to Sepang this year

Hello members, I'm looking to see if anyone from the UK is travelling to Sepang for this years MotoGP. We went 2 years ago and stayed at the Concorde Inn, since then though, they have sustained major fire damage and wont be open until April 2018. I'm looking to see where other people are staying, how they travel to the circuit etc.

I stayed at the Concorde in '06... found it too lifeless. Teams stay in Putra Jaya... a good option if you want to bump into peeps from the paddock, still boring town though... I've stayed in KL the last ten yrs and taken taxis or shuttle busses. Love the nightlife!!

As Mick suggested; stay in KL, get a shuttle. If you get a taxi, ask for their card and get them to meet you outside the circuit afterwards. Other option is the express train to KLIA, and taxi from there, but be prepared to pay a bit more as a tip as the drivers will often be expecting the decent fare to KL

Express train is great, clean, fast and cheap... but as the Dr says on event days the cabbies are looking for full fares. Got caught out in '12 or '13... the year it was a ....... monsoon at Sepang... waiting/looking for a teksi that would take us to KLIA.

Dr. also correct that getting a teksi back to KL can be a challenge if you are not, uhm... pushy. Having a teksi on call or waiting is a good idea.

Ha. I was there during that fkn monsoon. It was ..... We had team passes and with no room in the stands it was either hang around in the dry, but boring as .... garage area or head out to the soaking T2/3 area. My gf was ever so happy about our day at the races....

While we are talking KL. I watched Valencia 06 in a tiny bar near Bukit Bintang. What a race. What a championship. Was smiling like an ..... (dirt cheap Tiger beer helped) for hours.

If you're staying in KL - there's a killer Vietnamese restaurant called Sao Nam, not to be missed. Street food there is kind of hit or miss.

I've rarely had any crap street food in KL even at places like Jalan Alor (just have to know the good places) Also: 1) Malaysian is.my favourite cuisine and 2) Luck?
Plus you get to eat grilled Steve Irwin's Revenge (stingray...With shitloads of chili)

Back home, we would eat Vietnamese a couple of times per week...so I am wary of trying it out for fear of disappointment. Still haven't found a good one here, that said, I'm not willing to pay the prices some of the places charge (who wants to be disappointed *and* ripped off?)

Didn't have all bad luck w food in KL... just mixed. My apartment in Manhattan is right on the edge of Chinatown, which has a huge selection of Vietnamese places but not a hell of a lot of good Malaysian. In any event, I was fortunate enough while in Penang to eat most of my meals at homes of my former employees, so all proper home cooking.

Sao Nam used to be in Jalan Alor and had a non-ostentatious - but sort of Frenchy country restaurant ambience, but they've since moved to that enormous mall in Bukit Bintang. The place is of course all tacky with too much marble, Dior scented air, Gucci-patterned what-not and fake gold-plated everything, but I'm sure the food is still good. One of KL's most popular laksa joints is there too. I was dismayed when I learned that's where it was, but locals swore up and down that it was incredible, and they were right.

Oh - and a really nice, affordable boutique hotel to stay at is the Journal Hotel. Really love this place.

Thank you everyone for your replies. 2015 we stayed at the Concorde, just found it very handy and not much travelling.

DrNo, What would you say the approximate cost for a taxi from KL to the circuit is?

We have also been looking at some hotels in the area of Putrajaya, do you have any knowledge of this area? Were just trying to cut the travel time down.

Have you used the shuttle service from the airport to the circuit? If so, whats your advice.

Ekpres train is about 50ringitt from memory. Depending on traffic, taxis from KL can be triple that. But then, you have to add the cost of getting from KLIA to SIC.
I've only visited Putra Jaya, never stayed, so I can't help there.
Whereever you do stay, enquire about the shittle services, if you're not keen on organising taxi. One year my mate just climbed aboard one of the shuttle buses at a swanky hotel.
