The studio analysts on DSTV Africa are always going on about Ant West's IQ or lack thereof. I used to think it may have been personal since one of them used to be in the motogp paddock. But after watching the race today I must agree. What the hell was he looking at when he lined up like that?

I'm sure Antfan and the other Aussies will bash at this point. But that was pathetic.

I think you need too cut him some slack here and actually focus on what a superb qual position Ant made on Saturday and how much he has impressed alot of people in his short motogp career.

Yes he fk'd up today - I'm sure he's not the first to get in the wrong slot for a race!

Yeah, cut him some slack. At least his mistake didn't ruin other people's race.

RDP and OJ have hit nearly everyone in the paddock this season. Guintoli essentially ended a man's career, then took his ride

Pedrosa hit his championship leading teammate last season.

There have been much worse mental errors. Besides you can't give a Darwin Award to someone who is still alive!

stoner and gibbers springs to mind !

Mistakes in the heat of racing are one thing. Lining up directly behind Stoner was plain stupid. I could understand him missing his mark perhaps but he could SEE he was in the wrong spot. This confirms he's not too bright.

Silly mistake but i wouldn't tease too much. A lot will have been on his mind, he is new to this and i think he is doing a very impressive job. Its a shame he wasted another opertunity to show strongly but he will learn from it. And he wasn't gonna be top 5 anyway

out of curiosity....
who did guintoli take out to replace that same person?

i know some people said that about stoner last season.
who did guintoli take out though?

Dani's a robot, its not his fault, Yamaha hacked him and inserted a new memory disk which programmed him to "Exterminate" the HRC threat.

I posted this elsewhere.....
You'd think one of the marshals would off said something. A rookie mistake maybe but somethings needs to be done to prevent this from happening again...

He has raced quite a bit and I wouldn't call him a rookie. Still, give the guy some slack. He already paid for his mistake.

Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't West in position before Stoner?

Once Stoner lined up in front the West woudl have started to realise something was wrong, but given this is the end of the warm up and the lights were on he could not move without delay and possible safety issues so copped the penalty.

If the 250 class runs a 3 man grid than there is no excuse for West to line up in the wrong spot as he would be used to it.

Pretty pathetic race direction couldn't point it out though

Even the dysfunctional AMA marshals help riders line up tires on the line.

Im glad to see most people see reason and realise its a mistake that has been paid for..

No need to go on with it further.. The reason Ant got it so wrong is that he was one of the first riders back on the grid and had no one to line up behind.. Possibly out of habit (riding in 250s for first half of the year) he just went into a 250cc slot, who knows..

He would have taken encouragement from his pace over the weekend and picking up a point, but im sure he would have been hella pissed, glad bracksey didn't interview him!

Anyway.. purely and simply, he'll only get better from here..

I blame the marshals who are supposed to check everything is OK before lowering the flags signaling to start the lights.

I'd agree with that ... if it was a safety issue:

1. How safe are they if it wasn't noticed before the start and they were let go. Seemed a quite unjust punishment for the what happend ... I mean gee had they not "ride-thrued" him the guy would have beaten Rossi ..... ohh!! oh I see now its ok everyone you can stop worrying its just one of the tiny "help Rossi" events ...

2. There were a plethora of starting positions, painted on the tarmac, Why so many?? that all look the same.

And IMO it was this that caused the problem.

Given that MotoGP have 3 bikes per row, whilst 125 and 250 have 4 per row, it may be time to use different colour markings (ie. white for MGP, yellow for others).

But still, the ultimate responsibility is on the rider to know his/her position in terms of place (ie. fifth) and location.
