Thought I'd share this with you all.....A wager has been made...

Quick re-cap...
Sir Shag (aka NineShagnasty) wants to wager me, Mr. CURV (aka xx CURVE xx)
That the BRITS will have a Moto GP world Champion BEFORE The Americans....

This is how this story begins......

Conversation of the upcoming release of Moto GP 08 cover art turned ugly between two old friends...Pride of Motherland soon reared it's ugly head...turning these once allies to bitter foe, enemies, each ones nemesis if you will...

The line has been drawn, the words have been spoken, the blood...has...been...shed....

TWO MEN ENTER!! ONE MAN LEAVE!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OK....here's my offer as the BET....

If a LIMEY wins the PREMIER class in GP.....
I will BUY YOU the Moto GP game of the moment. (MotoGP 2030 if you're lucky)
If a YANK wins it.....You're buying.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I await his answer on the field of battle.... TO LORD AND COUNTRY!
<

So what do you all think....who will have a GP champ first... UK or USA?

Just so you know...this is a friend of mine from the UK...we battle on 360 all the time...friendly bet
<

Easy, the US. Scott Redding will challenge, but I feel Nicky has another in him before that. Not 2009, but 2010 will be that year.

But after that, I can't see many Americans. Stevie Bonsey has another 4-5 years before he would be ready for just MotoGP.

Josh Herrin needs to get out of the US.

Unless Spies gets a seat for 2009, his shot at MotoGP altogether is gone.

He is only 15. I saw two more years on 125's. 2 years on 250's, and then MotoGP.

That is at 4 years. I personally believe Hayden will have a title in that time. Plus, a rookie has not taken the MotoGP title in.... actually I do not know when.

I think redding will have a title before he gets into the GP class. . 125's or 250's..

Yes. Heck, with factory bikes next year, he could be the 125 champ. But Curve is saying MotoGP champ. 800cc over the two lower series.

Really the battle there is, can Toseland get a title before Nicky or Hopper gets one.

Really?

funny how peeps are saying scott redding who runs in 125 rather than jt who was a 2x wsb champ (except mari)
<

funny thing is im thinking scott too. jt is good and a top 5 regally in his rookie year and not on a factory bike thats on michilin. i just dont see him being much better even on a factory ride with stones. dunno why, but hope im wrong.

no yank champs again for many years i reckon.

Americas chances lie in Nicky, and Spies if he gets a GP ride now-ish. British hopes lie where exactly? in 125 or superbike, thats years away. Tough one to call

A name to remember is Hayden Gillem from Owensboro Ky.Its not a coincidence that his name is Hayden,he is named after cousin Nicky. He is 13 years old and was wiping the floor with the best the world had to offer in the Red Bull Challenge Sunday till the rain came then he crashed. The kid is a star in the making. This year he started ok but by midseason he was a force, winning races in dominant style.Rumor has it he was talk of the paddock among the 125 GP teams.Im a little selfish and hope he stays over here for a while but,a seat on a GP 125 is said to be imminent.

If it's ANY world title in GP's it'll be Britain with Redding or Smith, but in the 800's I can easily see Hayden challenging for another title before Toseland - so I'm voting USA.

It'll be the USA because there will always be more US riders than Brits. It's a market thing.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Marijke @ Sep 17 2008, 04:02 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Im hoping for JT to win it
<

You had better do more than hope then if you want that to happen. He just doesn't have the real support you need in that team. He needs a full factory ride like Nicky Hayden will have with Ducati.

Hopper will never have one, I think his days in MotoGP are almost over. Nicky's chances depend on whether he can tame the widowmaker (Ducati), if he can, I think his anger at Honda will drive him to greatness. Toseland will have a good chance if he can earn a factory ride, and remove himself from the influence of career development rider Colin Edwards.

For what it's worth - history does have a way of repeating itself.
Since the 80's there's been:

Roberts
Spencer
Rainey
Lawson
Roberts Jr
Kosinski
Schwantz (not necessarily in that order)

And from the UK ... Barry Sheene

So - what are the odds?

Kocinski did not win a 500cc title nor MotoGP (obviously in that case), but did win a 250cc title if you are comparing across all classes.
