With Pedrosa way up on the field at this time does this not sound a little hollow.
My day was very difficult for sure,” Rossi said. “We have problems and the first one is tires. We are struggling a lot. We have to confirm the performance of Portugal, but I already know more or less that the situation is not very good because we improve the front, but the rear is not very good with this asphalt. We know Bridgestone here is very strong and when Bridgestone is very strong they have eight bikes that are very fast."
Two of them belonged to Pramac d'Antin Ducati's Alex Barros and Kawasaki's Randy de Puniet. Rossi followed both and saw firsthand the superiority of the tires.
“I stayed four laps behind de Puniet and Barros only three or four corners, but they have a lot, lot more grip in acceleration,” he said. “They are able to use all of the track without a problem. With Michelin, it is like we use one line and if we make a mistake we lose a lot of time. With Bridgestone, they ride like they want. They go wide and they can come back and it’s a lot easier. So the difference is big, especially for 24-laps, because with our tire if you make a mistake you pay a lot more. And it's like with Bridgestone it all becomes a lot easier. In fact, if you see the lap times, different riders, different styles on different brands of bike, but the lap time is fast anyway. We know Bridgestone here is very strong, but the reality is maybe worse than what we expected.”
There was encouragement in the form of Pedrosa, who was tops on the day by nearly four-tenths.
He did go on to say that,Oh by the way we have some problems with the bike. Its looking more and more like Ducati guessed correctly from the start,Honda didnt, but seems to have figured it out,[was there ever any doubt] Yamaha didnt and have yet to figure it out.Only Rossi's freakish talent has kept the bike in contention.
Strange post, you didn't mention whether you liked Stoner or not?
Interesting that Pedrosa is the only one making the Michelin work here. Nicky, also said he can't find anything thats working yet. Looks like the battle for 2nd in the championship is going to tighten up.
Tomorrows sessions will be interesting, 7 Bridgestone runners within 3 tenths of one another, one Michelin rider making it happen. Just a little one sided. Pedrosa is quick, but will the tyres hold out for 24 laps, if he has to battle on the brakes can he make the passes stick? Hopkins won't have a problem throwing it up the inside any chance he gets.
Pedrosa definitely has the best pace, quite a few low 1:48's and 2 1:47's.
