2021 Red Bull Ring - Spielberg Austria MotoGp

Yes - when I was watching the pre-race commentary, and one commentator was interviewing, I think Pit Beirer, Beirer expressed regret that the two current riders heard of the hiring of two new riders, inadvertently - rather than from official in-house sources, leading me to think that KTM was, I don't know, buying out their contracts and replacing them. It wasn't really clear.

I think he was talking about Tech3? Lecuona moaned that he heard he was being replaced in the news rather then from KTM directly.

Have to go back and listen again. I had a neighbor at the door and my dogs were barking and it was hard to fully pay attention. :p

I do wonder what happens at KTM in the long term. Four into two doesn’t go, and while I like Binder I think Fernandez and possibly (hopefully from my point of view as an Australian) Gardner may end up better than Him, and both the factory riders have long term contracts.

And then you have Acosta coming up within the KTM pipeline. Too many talented riders for just 4 seats.

I watched the post-race press interviews and what a pleasure! These three podium finishers are very mature for their years. All the riders can be quite thoughtful in how they speak and genuinely keep my attention. This is in such stark contrast to Formula one.

I frequent another board and they're sad because "after Rossi retires, there isn't a single charismatic rider out there". It's incredible how people prefer a cult of personality than good competition. Explains the popularity of F1, which has become unwatchable in the last decade.

Oh I don't know. The Hamilton cult is coming on strong in there now.

There's always going to be lonely, unfulfilled masses who live vicariously through celebrities with outsized personalities who do their living for them.

I think Aleix having a sook is pretty funny. It wasn’t so long ago that he smashed into the back of Marquez and finished his race IIRC. I think Marquez was at fault for the first one, the second one he himself got picked up by Quartaro. Just the same people making a mountain out of a molehill I guess.

I wouldn't be counting those chickens yet...

So far he is looking much better than he did last year. I think he’s the strong favourite but having said that one crash puts the pressure on him again and he hasn’t responded well to pressure historically.

You can say that again!

Agree. MM fault in whack #1. Not his fault in the second. Unfortunately MM has a history of stupidity. If it was, say, Dovi... I would agree it was a mountain out of a molehill. Being MM, I think it's prudent to check him when he gets stupid.

KTM Factory triple threat in 2023?

Sorry, got mixed up, KTM have signed on for 5 more years in the premier class, Binder is signed until the end of the 2024 season, Oliveira is only signed till the end of the 2022 season. I personally would have the contract situations of the 2 current factory riders reversed, and do wonder whether at least one of their riders signed for next year would have been better off elsewhere. It is hard to give 4 riders the same support whatever the support may be in theory imo, although Ducati seem to be managing to support Zarco and Martin fairly well this year.

It was Pit Beirer who regretted that Petrucci and Lecuona found out from a presser, not directly from management, that they would be without a KTM ride next year.
