Anyone hear tech guru Neil Spalding on talking eurosport after the race?
He was saying that he'd heard talk of Rossi/Burgess' plan to beat the Ducatis at Mugello. According to Spalding, the Yamaha team purposely ingnored the huge straight and didn't even attempt to set up the Yamaha for top speed, and with Neil pointing out that Rossi's Yamaha barely broke the 300kph barrier for the entire second half of the race. What he said was that Rossi's bike was set up purely for hard acceleration from turn to turn. Mugello has so many short sprints from one corner to the next and this is what Yamaha focused on as it would give valentino plenty of passing opportunities round the rest of the lap as opposed to squeezing a few extra clicks out of the bike for the end of the straight. It meant that Rossi was more competitive for the entire lap and especially the run to the line from the last turn, on the last lap if needed. Makes total sense doesn't it? the Yamaha looked plenty quick everywhere else once Roosi got stuck in on the third lap or so. Clever old bugger JB. I think I'm gonna buy Spaldings book though, he seemed to really know what he was on about.
