Not sure they'll dump Austin. Though not as popular here as it is in other parts of the world, it still makes money and gets publicity for the sport. I could see an added round in South America putting pressure on Dorna to maybe axe Austin, but right now I don't think so.
 
That's been my understanding. Laguna as well, if they could work out the financial stuff.

I've always wanted to go to Laguna, but unlikely now as I wanted to ride round it if possible.

Worth visiting all the same. A fun venue where it's easy to get to all the best spots to watch. Much more access to riders. Even without a VIP pass I met Schwantz, Lorenzo, King Kenny, Lawson, Depuniet and a few others.
 
OK so my question to the USA fans is, how long before Austin gets dumped?

Austin does good job with MotoGP, better then Indy and Laguna in my experience...though the track is going to need some major work on drainage and bumps in the braking zones.

Funny you say that as here in the good 'ol UK we love our half drowned race courses and of course a bike track wouldn't be complete without its fraught braking zones, its what makes sport interesting.

They could of course fit rain proof tarmac and raised roadbeds with slopped run offs, but wheres the fun in that.:)
 
Club racing back in the day was much more accessible because so many riders were doing run-what-yah-brung and doing their own wrenching. Nowadays, it's much more expensive to race.

Rob from the BrotoGP podcast mentioned a weekend in MotoAmerica, where he races a few times a season, cost him over $4,000. I don't know about you, but I can't afford that.

Yep - it used to be cheap. Like 75.00 to register for three races over the weekend and that got you a space in the paddock too. After that expense were gas for the bike and truck, a set of slicks and food. Two nights at a cheap motel if you were flush.

Was looking for my fees from back in 1975, but can't find them :(, but if memory serves it was about £45 for the weekend, that was practice qualifying and 2 races, set of slicks was £50, fuel about £15, plus the obvious things like servicing, repairs, food.
Slept in the van (Ford Transit Hightop) owned by my spanner man.
When I finished it cost me about £400 a weekend and I'd do 10-12.

Best waste of money ever :happy:

I’ve never done Austin, but went to Indy every year . From my experience after visiting lots of tracks in different locals, The entire Indy experience was wonderful.Lots of good cheap rooms, very nice cops who understood you were dropping big money in their city, excellent track facilities, awesome bike parking and better than average track food at reasonable prices. Motorcycles on the Meridian was awesome and having the flat track races at the fairground made for a great weekend. Just curious what you think makes Austin better than Indy. I have read about lousy parking, price gouging etc etc
