Yamaha and Tech 3 to Part Ways at end of 2018 Season

It’s obvious enough how this will play out. Carmelo will simply put it to a vote. The first result will be a unanimous no to team VR getting extra slots on the grid. Then uncle Ezzy will wave some $$$ cash in their faces at which point the independent teams will suddenly have a change of heart and welcome VR to their collective bosom. Sure it will be good for the sport, possibly for all the wrong reasons but the majority of viewers aren’t going to worry about such minor moto matters.

I don’t care if he is there or not, and you are right, most fans would want his team in. I am just against the attitude that legalities don’t matter when it comes to Rossi. Carmelo was wrong to assume that everyone would fall all over themselves to accommodate Rossi , he has been doing it for close to to two decades and figured that’s the way life is. Like I said earlier, Carmelo will pay off any detractors or Rossi will simply purchase a team for double its worth and he is in.

I think he would be better off running the Yamaha factory team.

Running a satellite GP team seems like a fairly good way to lose money in general, although I guess he wouldn’t have much trouble getting either financial backing/sponsorship or management help. I imagine he will want to win as well though.

I have no doubt he will be good at identifying and fostering talent.

Rossi with a satellite team? Hahahahahaha ....... hilarious, he'll want to kick a few hard in the ...... the miserable .....

Aspar/ Nieto and Avintia survive based on Dorna’s Payouts.
You’d have to be fairly delusional if you think they will bite the hand that feeds them.

Even Marc VDS, Tech 3 and LCR aren’t as “Independent “ as they seem to be.

Just to give you an idea of where revolting goes in MotoGP, when plans for spec ECUs were announced by Dorna, Honda threatened to quit.

Look where we are now...

Sure. I think that was part of the control tire thing, i think Dorna may have been subsidising the tyres for the satellite teams.

The existing VR team seem to be going well, i have no doubt he will identify and foster talent well as I said. I can’t see why he would want to have a team like the existing satellite teams though, unless the intention is a quasi factory team including full technical support a la Nastro Azziuro Honda. Herve sounds like he is getting a Torro Rosso set-up.

I honestly don't see the big deal in expanding the grid to 26 bikes. Would have preferred seeing Suzuki supply a satellite team though. Given where things were in 2011/2012, Dorna has done a big job in getting a reasonable grid out there much as I dislike them.

Yep Honda running away with it, Maybe the mucky mucks at Dorna should introduce the new WSBK rules to motogp

If I remember correctly, Dorna covers at least part of the tyre costs, the rider salary and some transportation costs. It would be impossible for the independents to compete otherwise. The spec ECU was also introduced to help them as the factory ECUs were light years ahead.

Good for Herve if he has managed to get a Torro Rosso deal. Currently, all independent teams have to pay for the bikes they lease. His budget would go a long way further if the bike costs are covered.

I am beyond fairly delusional unlike Uccio, despite that I understand what the limited grid spots was supposed to achieve. Namely financial security for any private team to invest in MotoGP. Back in 2010 when there were satelight teams going bunkrupt and 14 bikes on the grid the rule was vital to encourage investment. The purpose is to say to private teams we won’t just increase the grid, if someone else wants in ala BMW they will have to buy you out. This means the private teams can raise cash because their investors know it is a safe bet. Now Carmelo waves his magic wand to expand to 26 just to please Rossi, of coarse all those investors will be waving their contracts at DORNA.

Hervé knows exactly what he’s doing, they all do and they won’t simply roll over for VR and devalue their own investment. Herve has already out played Jarvis, Carmelo, Yamaha and VR. We are witnessing a man who knows his business and good on him.

Herve has done very well for himself by getting a better deal than he had from Yamaha.
But he is hardly outplaying anyone when Yamaha officially stated that VR46 will get priority over him.

What he did was make lemonade when life threw him a lemon. And that’s pretty awesome in its own right.

And KTM turned water into wine. They just took Yamahas long standing satelight team right out from under their noses. Probably the no 1 satelight team in the paddock, with Zarco as the rider. Obviously Hervé has anticipated what they had planned for some time. namely the team VR takeover, most likely with VR riding and raising the profile of his own team in his final year enabling Zarco to step up to the factory team. Now what do Yamaha have? No satelight, no upcoming rider development potential, no Lorenzo, no W/C, just a 41 yo Rossi. Oh and lots of tshirt sales. Gotta hand it to that mastermind Jarvis.

You mean, kinda like how Honda was a decade ago?
Everything is cyclical in racing. What goes up must come down and then back up again.

I like how close the racing is getting. Try to enjoy that instead of being all snivelly and personal about these things.

You'll find here that what you give is what you get. The old-timers here are really good at debating without nastiness. Try not to be so high handed and stop insulting people and most here will do the same. You came on this forum, snarkey guns blazing, every post dripping with sarcasm and brought all the acrimony on yourself. You are pretty knowledgeable and clearly are capable of debating competently without all the ad hominem crap. Ignore the trolls and enjoy the forum. :peace: Hmm... sumpthin' wrong with the emoticons. Maybe Barry broke 'em. :p

like I said, those t-shirts have a ton of Mark up.On a more serious note, Rossi has become nothing but a detrement to the Yamaha race team but they have no one to blame but themselves. They were complicit in letting Rossi turn the work environment turn so toxic that their best rider left. Then they allowed Rossi to orchestrate the tire change that may very well of cost Vinales and Yamaha a title. Now they are blindly following him down the development path when they should be 100% focusing on what makes Vinales faster.

So who wants to place a bet that both flossi & jarvis see the exit at the end of 2018? Board meeting in Japan yamaka corp HQ working on damage control.... Reason why the ktm tech 3 news got pullled???? Motogp sky 46 aprilia only mfg that would touch him....

I agree. I think Rossi will announce retirement in first 1/4 of the season, and soon after announce the entry of the VR46 MotoGP team as participants in 2019 season.

You should continue being yourself, despite the bad advice from people that wish everyone on here to perpetually vomit anti Rossi rhetoric.

How quickly one forgets what a "toxic" environment, Lorenzo brings to a team.
As a prodigious reader of fiction, I do enjoy the creative reasons you guys make up about why people leave teams.
They kind of remind me of those, Choose your own adventure books I read as a kid.
