Lascorz: hours of anguish

Tuesday, April 3, 2012 9:35 Paolo Gozzi

Lascorz In the morning should be out on the official medical report on the conditions of Joan Lascorz victim of a serious accident in Superbike testing at Imola on Monday April 2. The 27 year old Spaniard was admitted into the spinal Maggiore Hospital in Bologna and has undergone a long speech for the reduction of the fracture of the fifth and sixth vertebrae.

The doctors will say what are the consequences left by the tremendous injury to the spine. Rumors UNOFFICIAL gathered on the night talking about a very serious situation: the terrible crash would permanently affected the mobility of the lower limbs, and perhaps even higher ones. Lascorz would be paralyzed from the neck down and breathes with the aid of the ventilator. The hope is that the extent of the damage is reduced by the official release expected soon and that the doctors are able to save at least the mobility of the arms and hands.

As soon as possible Lascorz will be transported to Barcelona, his city, with a flight specially equipped for medical emergencies similar.

The accident has spoken World Champion Carlos Checa, the only top riders who resigned to take to the track in the second session of the tests after having tried in vain to persuade colleagues and race direction to cancel the afternoon program.

"I still had several things to try but I felt bad and was not able to get back on track. We riders know that racing is dangerous, but when it happens to someone you know well is much harder to accept.

Marco > @MarcoMelandri33: Last news does not look good for Lascorz. I can not believe a stupid crash going out of the pit can change a life..

+

news coming from the hospital Maggiore in Bologna,

where yesterday is riceverato Joan Lascorz, 27 years, Kawasaki rider in World Superbike.

Lascorz, crashed straight into the barriers between the Tosa and Piratella during Monday's test in Imola, has suffered a fracture of the

fifth and sixth cervical vertebrae. Despite surgery he underwent on Monday afternoon, the unfortunate Spaniard will remain quadriplegic,

unless miracles now very unlikely.

remains the danger of death - At this time the doctors are trying to stabilize the patient's condition so as to enable it,

perhaps as early as tomorrow, traveling to Barcelona with a specially equipped air ambulance. The general situation remains

serious and there is still life threatening.

Unfortunately the conditions of Joan, albeit stabilized, remain serious. The damage to the vertebrae C6 and C7 was very serious and even if the action taken to hospital stabilization of Bologna is perfectly successful, the damage to the spinal cord are permanent .

"The risk remains that Lascorz parapeglico is the first evidence of the incident that I talked to team owners," says Massimo Corbascio, head of the Mobile Clinic Superbike. "There's also the risk that the lesion may have affected the use of upper limbs but right now is just wait for the developments of the post operative. "

So, unless miracles, Joan has lost the use of his legs . Hopefully that will at least recover the arms to lead a normal life, albeit in a wheelchair.

Haven't heard Green, but I'd consider a temporary trade for Burnicle and Witham, the English twerps on Eurosport. They display zero situational awareness and do little more than babble incoherently.

Agree that the race was a bit of a snooze. There were some good passes, but no battles to speak of. On top of that, Imola doesn't have any 'real' corners left. Watching the bikes flip-flop through an endless series of medium speed 'S' corners gets kinda old.

Those two.

What a pair. They sound like a couple of 85 year olds sitting on beer kegs out behind the pub whilst drinking homemade liquor and whittling away at random pieces of kindling with cheap pocket knives. While commentating on a smokin' race - they sound like they're talking about the cattle fair over in North Rimswell.

Hadn't got this far in the thread. .... me. Too depressing. Never seen any personality pieces on Joan, so I don't know much about him as a private person - but back when Racing Underground was still up and I was really watching all the European races I really liked watching him on his crazy multicolored Kawi and thought the guy had amazing spirit and really did a lot with not much bike. This is really tragic.

Jamie whitham is a good guy. He is the patron

of a charity which provides help to riders and their families who may be struggling because of serious racing injuries. That gets him a thumbs up in my book !

Michaela Fogarty just tweeted Whit n Foggy pic Whitham got some serious .... going on there
