Looks like the Ten Kate Honda's work here (must be quick). 3 BSB riders in the top 6 looks good, and Spies is there again! Can't wait for superpole
<

It looks like Super Pole will be somewhere in the low 58's to high 57's. I looked up last years GP times and Lorenzo was on the pole with a 153.9. There must be a big track condition difference for them to be off GP pace by over 4 seconds. Thats not a normal gap between the series is it?.I also checked top speed since this track has a long front straight and the GP bikes,or should i say the Ducati, were in the 205 mph range. The fastest WSB [Suzuki] is clocking in at 195 mph.

Troy Corser rode to a Superpole lap of 1'58.053 at Losail last year. My moneys on Spies to break that this year. Two weeks ago Spies knocked 2 seconds off his QP1 time in his final Superpole lap. The boy has WHEELS.

I went and looked at last years Phillip Island times and compared them with the WSB time from 2 weeks ago and the difference was 2.5 seconds .

Spies is an incredible talent. I cant say how impressed i am with his ability to jump on a track he has never seen and be up front in a matter of hours.

What is going to stop spies? I have to say based on past form that consistency and/or dnfs are more likely to be a problem for haga than spies. Haga as nearly always will be fast in the race even if he doesn't get near the top in practice though.

Me thinks the only thing to derail Spies will be injury. He also hasn't been in a real dogfight yet. I like the guy, but I also don't want to see a one horse race season.

I wouldnt say he hasnt been in a dogfight yet. Mladin is a junkyard dog who actually won more races the last 3 years than Spies did as he won 3 straight titles.Plus, that was a pretty good tussle at PI till the last 4 laps when Ben hit the go button. I say the reason he is doing so well is the fact that he is very battle hardened.

Man what a good job, looks like Mladin is the perfect benchmark for riders at least in the AMA to go through to step up to a higher series. Once he's gone.. heh. We'll just have to wait for 'the One' like the Matrix that blows everyone else out of the water..

Anyway, I asked in another thread, as I'm not really up on motorcycling video games.. but how many of the WSBK tracks are in video games (either MotoGP, Tourist Trophy, or maybe some F1 games, etc).. Like which ones is Ben going to have to learn the old fashioned way?

Spies and that new Yamaha, potent combination. But watch out if Haga gets a good quali position, everyone saw what he can do when starting from 13th on the grid at PI. Great to see Rea/Checa/Kiyo on the Honda's looking good so far. Could Byrne get a good finish this weekend and end his nightmare that happened at PI? Smrz again looking fast, but can he turn it into a good finish and not go backwards from the start. Laconi showing good form again. Hope to see Haslam come up to speed.

Can't wait for superpole and the races on Saturday.

Yeah, he's really been amazing, even I'm surprised an I'm one of his biggest fan boys.

I can't remember a person since Rossi who has actually lived up to the hype. Obviously, Stoner has been an unbelievable addition to GP, but he overshadowed by Dani's arrival.

I hope Spies can continue this form. He's fastest already and its his first go round the Qatar circuit.

I've hardly seen the guy, but I'm calling it - Ben Spies 2009 WSBK world champ.
The only one as I see it capable of beating him is Haga, and Haga will fold.

I'm borderline gobsmacked. He's doing better than I ever imagined possible.
I suspect he'll have a Lorenzo style 'introduction to reality' before long, but still think he'll finish in the top 3 this year.

This is technically impossible!
Even at its maximum, during the winter solstice of his first season, Pedrosa's shadow was incapable of shading anything larger than a grasshopper. After years of miserable results, his shadow has shrunk to nearly undetectable size. Based on this trend, scientists warn that it may vanish altogether by the summer of 2009...

I agree, its early days yet but Ben has been looking great. As is the way in superbikes most of the riders aren't able to string together a decent season, and the one person who can will usually win. If Haga has a good run it'll be him, if he doesn't then Spies looks next in line.

nano technology buddy.

Anyway, ah another great start by Spies. Wow, Im really impressed. I mean yeah I'm rooting for the guy but still I didn't expect him to deliver in a world of everything-new. If he notches a win or a close 2nd, we can really start to wonder what GP Suzuki were thinking, eh?

I really think its gonna be very hard for Spies to make up the almost DNF in race one PI. Its really looking like points are gonna be at a premium and the war of attrition will be the real race to the title. One more DNF (which is very likely to come from a crash) may spell the end to a championship run.

As far as willing to "dog fight", well I think that question was answered with him willing to trade lead positions with Haga and neither backing down. That was proof enough for me that he can trade paint.

I'm still thinking the guys to beat are Haga, & Max N. The top Hondas will be pesky all season, and I'm very impressed with J. Rea. Even though I'm still upset with Checa for Pedrosaizing Max N., I still think he will notch a few wins. I'm just hoping its not at Miller. Even then, Spies should be the favorite at Miller since he dominated their while in AMA.

You haven't let facts get in the way of your opinions before, why the sudden change?

If you remember last year at Miller, Bayliss had 1 DNF and one finish outside the points, yet he still won the championship. Unlike MotoGP, 1 or 2 races without points in WSBK typically doesn't mean you are out of contention, thanks to there being 28 total races during the year (14 rounds). Haga also is bound to have a few offs or DNF's, it's just his luck. You never really know. Let's just hope the whole thing comes down to the final round at Portimao!

Matter of fact, there wasn't a single rider last year in the Top 10 who had less than 2 DNF's over the entire season last year.
