Poor kid, only 17 I think ending the days activities was the proper thing.

Not a great way to start the season.

UUUGH. So excited for the start of the racing season, now this. So much sorrow for his parents. RIP young man.

RIP Oscar, thoughts to his friends and family
<

Just woke up to read this. Tragic. Just a boy too. First of all, RIP young lad. 17 and racing at the world level. Condolences to his family.

I think cancelling the rest of the day was correct and important to show respect.

Friz, thanx for those great pics.

I hope they honor this kid appropriately this weekend.

Such sad news for the start of the season. I forgot to leave record on last night, stayed off net hoping to see the replay.

Respect to Haslam and Laverty for getting out there, bring the 3 Lions helmet out Leon!

Very nice shots, Frizzle, that shot of Johnny Rea is tops

Extremely sad for this rider & his family. I was at Doohan corner and saw this crash. The lack of announcements and presence of police on the track kinda gave it away that there was a fatality.

Agree that canceling the rest of the day was right. World Supersport did run their qualifying at 5pm which I thought was a bit weird given the circumstances.

I can't believe it. I have been so excited about the start of the WSBK season and now I am speechless. Just a baby really. RIP

Haslam, what a dude !

I'm not looking at any posts to spoil, but if somebody has a feed for race two (I missed one), please PM.

I love watching a rider make his way to the front. Good race, good for Sykes.

Wont mention any results but just want to say. Leon Haslam you are my hero buddy.

ABSOLUTELY! Dude was nails (no pun intended) in both races. I'm proud today. Gutsy ballsy performance by him and Laverty, For Haslam to hold off Melandri in race 2 was nothing less than amazing.

I'm thankful to be seeing some racing finally. First and foremost, I'd like to say, RIP young Oscar. Racing is just a sport and nothing is more important than human life. At 17, racing at the world level means this young lad accomplished much in his way too short life. I hope his family can find peace.

We got to see two fun races. Good battles for points and podium positions. Two guys I was rooting for did exceedingly well, Haslam and Sykes. Well done.

Congrats to both race winers. The crash by Checa was massively scary. Same place where Haslam went off. I don't know what speed they reach there (150+?) but that looked narly. Same with Biaggi, goes off track and fights back to 2nd. My apologies to everybody, but I'm a cynic, so I'm just gonna say it, I'm not convinced Checa's Ducati & Biaggi's Aprilia are on par with the rest of the field. To see the Aprilia blast past the BMWs (fast bikes themselves) makes me wonder what is what. Its gonna be an Italian machine for the title no doubt.

So for me personally, I'll be watching the rest of the field carefully. What is going on with Kawasaki? What has happened here? I'm happy to see a green machine running with the front runners. Sykes was excellent on the starts. Takes a lot of balls to lead into the first turn. Good for him to make the podium.

Disappointments, seeing Aoyama so far back. He's better than this. Also, sux for Laverty to have a mechanical issue in race one. He was battle good in race two. He has the pace and will be somebody to look for once his hand gets healed up. Also disappointed to see Guinters go off. He is a talented guy and just needs to keep it together. Camier, what is going on here? Oh, and whats up with Brits pronouncing the "a" like an R? Hahaha, I kept hearing them mention some dude named CanypeR, and I was like, who is that? Then I realized they were talking about Caneh-pAH (Canepa). haha

All in all, the racing was fun and clean. The venue is stunningly beautiful as ever. Good job boys.

(To the gentlemen who PMed me a link, I salute you. Much appreciated!)

I think on any track where there is a reasonable size straight the Aprillia's are going to smash the opposition.

The Ducati's were already slow in a straight line, but adding another 6kg from last year gives them no chance to even get in a slip stream.

Early call I know, but I'd be very surprised if Biaggi didn't win the title this year.
