EXACTLY....I've gotten my knee down on my own bike a few times....all the while waiting for the meathead in his Lexus, talking on his cell phone, sipping a latte eating a prune danish to clean me off the road with a sponge....

He won by 4.5 seconds because Nicky was thinking about points and worried about crashing the bike if he pushed 10/10ths to keep up with Vale. He let Rossi go. I'm not saying Nicky would have won but Rossi wouldn't have won by that large of a margin.

His bike is strong, just because Colin Edwards doesn't do that well anymore doesn't mean the bike is crap. :s

Yep, racetracks are great places.

Yah!...probably one of the most laughable moments this season.....I think Rossi took his mechanical breakdown a bit more calm...hahahaha....you don't even wanna know what I would've done......

Anyone ever think Rossi might be setting his bike up to run on bad tires? This would explain why he can break lap records on the last lap of a race.

if riding a hard tyre then yeah good for late race pace but in reality rossi rides well at end of race 95% of the times, riding style from a early 125, 250 days me thinks. if rossi was that worried about tyres in latter end of race then hed take more sensuble lines but hes always looking for diff lines so he not that bothered unless it completly lets go..

I liked what Hayden said after the race when asked about challenging Rossi for first place, he said something like: "Rossi was just playing with me in the second half of the race."

Anyone know what Hayden was running for tires in Catalunya...all I know is that Rossi had a hard front, small profile....medium rear....I think Hayden prefers mediums most of the time.....

I think Rossi just can handle the bike real well when its loose. I mean, he's one of only a few guys that have ever ridden a 500cc two stroke in GPs....those things were looser than the average prom queen.....so, if he knows he can tail the leaders on hard tires....when the tank starts to empty and the tires get warm.....he disappears.....

From what I heard all Michelin runners were on the hard medium package. The only difference is Rossi and Edwards were the only riders using the small footprint, everyone else was on the wider print.

Second thing I noticed was just after he passed Hayden. They showed the throttle/brake graphs at the bottom of the screen and the camera onbord hayden. Again, when it really mattered; at the exit to the main straight he was so much earlier and harder on power. Of cource, this could depend on Nickys rear grip problems but then again maybe not. I guess one of the keys to get a good drive out of the turn is to be early on power and gradually power up. If you increase later but quicker that would increase the probabilty for an uncontrolled wheel spin.
Another thing was some of the S-turns when rossi clearly never shut off power completly in the transition and got a quick extra 5m lead.

The only thing to note when looking at the real time telemetry is the relative position of each rider in the corner. Rossi would have been 30 feet further through the corner and able to apply more gas than Hayden at exactly the samepoint in time, and the same would apply on the brakes into the turn- sort of the concertina effect. Probably stating the obvious but hey, sounds good.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (richo @ Jun 22 2006, 12:16 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Why was that?
I don't think the wider footprint agrees with the M1. I don't think Rossi has used it in a race all year after not liking its feel in testing. I believe Edwards has used it in a race or two but it sounds like both Camel Yamaha riders like the feel of the narrower footprint.

I've heard they get more feel from the narrow profile too. Could be another reason.....

It has slightly less grip so reduces any chatter
