I have watched part of the last race a couple of times now and saw some interesting points. First, around lap 4 - 5 Rossi is still behind KR and struggle to get in front. We are onboard Rossi's bike and watch him hunting KR. Thats when I saw the first trick. It was clear that Rossi had better corner speed and was faster in the early exit of each turn. Every time he wanted to do an honest attempt or was looking for a small mistake he would let himself fall back a little when entering the turn, then build up speed through the turn and have a much better drive out of the turn than what he would have if he was to close to KR. Not a secret recipie and easy to describe but so hard to do in real life when your head is hot and the speed is high.

Second thing I noticed was just after he passed Hayden. They showed the throttle/brake graphs at the bottom of the screen and the camera onbord hayden. Again, when it really mattered; at the exit to the main straight he was so much earlier and harder on power. Of cource, this could depend on Nickys rear grip problems but then again maybe not. I guess one of the keys to get a good drive out of the turn is to be early on power and gradually power up. If you increase later but quicker that would increase the probabilty for an uncontrolled wheel spin.
Another thing was some of the S-turns when rossi clearly never shut off power completly in the transition and got a quick extra 5m lead.

Did you also notice the amount of brake being applied? Rossi would come in faster.....use less brake than Hayden and get on the gas earlier....to me that means Hayden was coming in too hot.....or its a confidence thing....

i think it's more a setup thing. he struggled all weekend to get competitive. it did'nt look like he was even going to end up on the box.

You could be right Frosty.....but style-wise Hayden and Rossi ride the bike a bit different, you can see the American "dirt tracker" in Nicky....really rough on the bike....whereas, Rossi is a little more fluid I think....

agreed 100%! rossi coming from racing 2strokes. he's smooth as glass. hayden coming from the dirt tracks. man handling it all the way. but he's gotten alot smoother.

The main thing is the bike is working for him now, so that shoves off accusations of the bike being crap! Another huge factor is that Rossi is the best out there at the moment and is surely going to be the best rider of all time, his skills with a bike are awesome; he'll go into and out of corners at speeds which you've never seen before or even just 'poach' the guys ahead while they squabble and then pounch on them when the chance is there, (like Jórge Lorenzo did in the 250cc at Catalunya).

I agree Alex....besides his natural talent, you know what really makes him the best.......HE'S HAVING FUN!!!....that's what its all about.....I've watched him since he raced 125.....and there aren't many riders out there with his charisma and ability.....he plays with them.....but I like that he admits when he makes mistakes.....how badass was the full rear wheel, last lap, tire smoking.....drift and the one handed #1 salute on the knee.....stuff of legend

Bleh I know too much for my age.

Can you imagine the reactions of the other drivers if he went to F1? He would cause a stir there with his attributes!

Did you hear that Alonso said "we don't want Rossi here (F1)"....I could do what he does in a minute"......

I think Alonso, should stick to driving cars.....what a ballzy statement....he'd crash on the first turn on a grand prix bike.....what a chump....hahaha

oh man. don't get me started on that prick Alonso...
Rossi is a master on motorcycles..Edwards is a good rider as well and supposedly is running the same set up as Vale but just can't make things really work for him. Rossi just has a way of getting every little bit out of a bike.
Just a pleasure to watch him ride. Nicky really looked good these past few races as well.

I honestly don't think Edwards' pace is very far off Rossi's. His problem is he hasn't been able to qualify and has to start from the fourth or fifth row. I don't know if it's attributed to the new chassis or if the Yam still doesn't mesh with Qs but he always starts the first lap around 15th and climbs to sixth or fifth. If he could only qualify well he would surely be regularly battling for podium positions.

Sure, Hayden is clearly tough on the bike, and most importantly, on the tires. That is his style and I think it might be his biggest drawback. Rossi on the other hand adopts to what ever he need or want. He got no problems sliding either. We've seen huge two wheel slides saving run offs, even this race he had quite a few rear and front slides into the corners, and of course the huge tyre-smoking slides on last lap. What I try to say is that if something should change that made huge tire slides nessesarry he would be there allong side Nicky right away, now it's just more efficient not to slide to much.

They did a pulse test on the riders some years ago, I can't remember the exact numbers right now but Rossis pulse was way down compared to all the others. 110 vs 140 or something in that line. Only proves your point, he's having fun!

The main thing I have seen out of Rossi is the fact that he has over the past couple years been in a points position to just let it hang out. They may say in the interviews that they are always haning it out, but you can't be stupid. Hayden is not going to risk a huge points lead over Capi by crashing trying to chase down Rossi. Rossi on the other hand has had nothing to loose in the recent past.

It is going to be great to see if Hayden can run Rossi down in the next race or two.

alex just to say the bike was crap thats why they had to go bak to a 2005 chassis and also had to settle thinks down where they could, the only time the bike started working for rossi was in france... so i say the honda is still the best bike out there, rossi on a repsol now?????? well u work it out..

as for rossi being fast and the point u made do we really know how rossi is riding cus he trys everythink different to most riders, one think for sure when he hit the front on sunday u could see it was in the bag barring engine failure, i was watching a recording and got bored and fast forwarded it cus i knew hed won u could c he was smooth and doing the riding he wanted to do..

for me the main reason rossi is fairly fast is because of the different lines he can ride of which the yam helps him but saying that he did it on the repsol also..

Yeah, before I did`t care about him, but after his cocky remarks that implied how easy it would be for him to be competitive in GPs..... ......

And you know that`s exactly why he`s not there. Your boy ain`t happy with just winning, he`s gotta show off and do it on a Yamaha too.

Rossi is very hardworker. He is working very much about his technical properties. He's got a big capacitiy. His motorbike not so strong but he knows how is riding . He has got wisdom :))

That was awesome and despite doing that he still won by around 4.5 seconds.

The chattering has gone thanks to a new chassis, although he won at Qatar with it anyway, and the tyres and bike are now working without fault, then Rossi wins two in a row, should have been three. As long as the bike continues to work I think it's going to be a tough season for everybody else.

he would'nt have done that had he not been that far ahead to begin with.

I heard that the reason you don't see him looking ahead in the corners is that he looks for brake/accel markers and not that far ahead. Thats nuts if you ask me.
