wheelies on Ducks

Texas, but from So. Central L.A.
a buddy has a 748s, and he says that it's really not made for riding wheelies.
He says that he has some sort of engine trouble everytime he rides long wheelies.
can someone tell me why this is (if it's indeed true)

Well, the power delivery is good for wheelies(good torquey curve!).

But, some bikes(like the 748, maybe), when they are on the back wheel for a long time get starved of oil due to the near vertical angle of the bike. It can mess with the engine. I think stunters on CBR954RRs modify their bikes somehow for this reason.

In any case, those bikes are designed to be ridden hard in corners. There are better stunt machines, like supermotards.

agreed, but you know how it is, sometimes you just cant resist the temptation to show off (not me though

I actually only do wheelies when no-one is around. In Victoria, if a cop sees me, my bike will be impounded!

Is it carburetored or fuel injected ?

Can't see why you would want to ride around doing wheelies on one much though? I had a 749S for a few months and can't say its a great bike to even try to wheelie .....

you know, that's a good ?

During the wheelie the engine oil goes to the back of the sump causing oil starvation and an eventual seizure. That is a very expensive problem to rectify.

wet sump bikes can suffer from this problem, i had to put a baffle in the sum of an old z9 for that reason once. another simple reason could be fuel starvation caused by the fuel in the tank is not at a level to reach the tap while in the vertical position or the fuel is now blocking the breather hole in the fuel cap.

some carburetors do this too ..... even more possible on V twins where the two carbies tend to be mounted at near opposite angles to the vertical. When the bike is tilted ( eg. wheelies ), its possible that at least one of the carbies goes past the angle at which the float cuts off fuel too it so after the fuel in the bowl goes its 1 cylinder time ....

Edit ......... talking of 1 cylinder time .... any Duc. owners out there have trouble in real wet consitions with the front cyclinder plug? .... if so what was your fix for it .... just interetsed as we put a "flap" there over the whole Bael plug/coil/hole etc. .... seems to do the trick.
