Oh yeah and my boys have a 70's Raliegh Chopper EACH! in the loft.

Things could be much worse, when space allows, I will treat myself to one of the following: a VW Kombi, a Land Rover Defender Tdi or a Mk1 Ford Escort....

And a Harley Sportster!

And a 250 Maico Mega 2 scrambler!

And an Aprilia Climber! (Sure Burkey would approve)

there worth a lot of money now pete. are they the leathal mk1 or the slightly safer mk2.

mk 1, not the rear of the frame has straight bars.

and the mk2 they put a swan neck to pull the rear wheel further back making it harder to flip if you had a passenger or popped a wheelie.

the mk 1 is really rare now. i dont think they made that many of them. there both worth a few quid now, i think the mk2's go for around 500 quid.
i think the new one looks crap with that seat on it, and they should put the gear stick back on. they sure were a stylish bike. sadly my dad would not let me have one because some kids go hurt on them. i had a raileigh commando instead.

Mine (the yellow one) is a '74 mark 2 and my EX mrs is an '83 mk2. Mine not for sale, my EX mrs', who cares?

Enlighten us Baldy!

i could quite merrily kill myself right now

basically - the seal between the two halves of the engine has 'gone' & as the water/coolant flows around the engine - the water is being sucked into the oil and now I have an engine full of mayonaise. So far - I've done 200 miles on the bike and now it's parked up for the next 2-3 months til I can source a new motor for it. I've spent twice as much time fixing it as riding it.

I'm pretty pissed to say the least

i dunno mate. I know nothing about engines so it's way beyond me to do that. I understand that the fault has been reported to Aprilia and they may well fix it for me. If not then I dunno what I'm going to do. £2k for a new lump.

All I can say is - if you're ever going to buy a bike - get it from the Rocket Centre @ Blackburn, they are the most helpfull people in the world (ask for Stuart) and under no circumstances buy one from M&S in Newcastle (they're ....)

unless you have a con rod hanging out the side of the crank cases you shouldn't need a "new" engine just an expensive rebuild i expect. how many miles did you do with the water contaminated oil ? trouble with race engines is they use harder big end shells so it ..... the crank journals if they go, unlike road engines that use softer shells, they tend to rattle and knock which is your warning to switch off before crank damage is done. having said that most cranks can be welded and ground.thats probably the most expensive part that could have been damaged. piston rings cams ect are not normally mortgage expensive.
send aprillia a ...... letter threatening them with legal action and see if you can force there hand before you pull it apart.
im gutted for you mate.

<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%IF it's what i think it is then it's a manufacturing fault which Aprilia have accepted and it means they will replace the engine for me. If it's something else then I've got a major problem.

is it a wet liner engine ? ie the barrels are part of the crank cases and the piston liners drop in and sit on seals, like the old triumph hinkley engine ? car engines work in a similar way.
