Toseland expected to challenge Lorenzo.

Lorenzo will beat JT in testing at Jerez 2 reasons why. 1 this is Lorenzos home race track

oh yeah .... I forgot about that! ..... well bummer! I was hoping to get a rough idea of how they will compare. Never mind plenty of time ..... first 3 or 4 races are allways the best indicator anyway.

Probably also explains why Lorenzo is looking good

jt's contract is supposed to stat equal factory equipment. i'm sure yamaha will honor that. i would think yamaha are going to throw much more effort towards tech3 this coming season. it's a strong team & it would be ashame to hamper them with sub par equipment.

i agree ,tech3 deserve to be treated like a competitive team by yamaha but will they be able to afford the time and money to do this ?
they now have the added cost of lorenzo and rossi on different tyres. im not so sure tech3 were that strong, i think it was just guinters catching our eye, but im open minded on the subject.

exactly, JT to challenge Lorenzo... i dont think so. as much as i like and rate James he's going to need a little time to settle in first. and as you said, Jorge is on a full factory Yam

well yeah I'm glad you piped in with that ..... cos I kinda feel comfortable with his type of personality too .... as much as folk want him to be a circus clown I kinda think he's never going to be ( and thats to his credit ) ... and yeah circus clowns are fun for about 15 minutes

Just read that Toseland is planning on losing 2 stone for motogp.
<

I've slagged James off a few times before ( and complimented him ) but it's only 'cos he's a pom
<

I have nothing but respect for the guy and I'm honestly excited that he's finally in gps, he's 100% committed in his approach and I've no doubt he'll be totally 'Doohan fit' Come Qatar. His tenacity and the fact that Yamaha may very well have an open mind on who is actually their no1 rider for the first few races of 2008 puts him in a great position. I'd also hold off from thinking Lorenzo will wipe him at Jerez. Ok, homeboy advantage, but it's hard to believe in my view that Lorenzo's experience will count for all that much, after all, a 250 lap and a 800 lap are gonna be just ever so slightly different.

Well i read Loris saying that a lot of his troubles came from the bike being changed to Stoners requests before the season even started.

i read loris is a "has-been" and cant ride for ....,

made up excuses that his attention was diverted towards his wife and new baby.

but when he got a podium he then said he was back "on focus" ...

then his season went downhill again and his focus was back on his baby, coz his wife ran out of nappies for the baby and he couldnt concentrate on the remaining races for fear of the nappy shortage crisis again of 2007

I think loris is just psyching himself up for the new season on a new bike, and good luck to him; I hope he does well.

However, I find it hard to believe that ducati would have favoured stoner over him in the pre-season, unless stoner was faster to a stunning degree in early testing. Remember that ducati had already signed marco melandri for 2008, and had signed casey only for 2007. They were still talking as though loris was their main man after the first couple of races. It is understandable if they concentrated on casey after this when it became obvious he was a serious championship contender.

Besides, I didn't think a ducati GP07 required any setting up
<
. Don't you just plug in the ecu and fully open the throttle (see control ecu thread)?

Can we revive the Toseland vs Lorenzo debate?

It seems that Lorenzo is getting the better of JT for the moment.

Obviously... Official factory rider.

Toseland started the little debate about being faster or close to Lorenzo but i knew it wouldn't last.

was Hoping Toseland would get the factory ride when Rossi retires but hes nearly the same age
<

I'm into that ...

I know its a dangerous thing to go off ... but Lorenzo did impress in the Sepang tests ..... he constantly improved ..... and I really think he has a chance of surpassing Rossi in his first year of motogp, after the Sepang tests ... I wouldn't be surprised if he wins a few in 08 ....... I just don't see that in Toseland yet.

Are you surprised?

Jorge is riding for the full factory Fiat Yamaha, while JT is only at the Sattalite Tech 3 team, they were never going to be setting simular lap times were they?

i was under the impression that when testing the bikes they are almost the identicle?? but the factory bikes get all the new stuff throughout the year???

i dont have much hope for toseland but i do for lorenzo but who knows...

equal in testing somewhat... but i'm sure Toseland did not get to try the pneumatic valve engine.

From the pics I saw, JT did not get to use the new fairing.

He also never got to try the Pneumatic valved engine.

So with the Duel engine strategy for Yamaha... Does Toseland/Edwards get the upgrades "standard" engine or the pneumatic deal.

If the lastest test shows anything... Toseland and Edwards will struggle and be mid to back packers. I hate it for JT but I hope that he shows much promise and gets a better seat next year.

the standard engine is still very close at this stage its not much disadvantage.

For how long....
I think that is the biggest issue for Tech 3. How quickly will they get parts. What happens when the entire efforts are put towards getting the pneumatic valve going.. at this stage the Pneumatic valve should be equal to the standard engine - its the start of the season. Your new machine should be at least equal to where you left off last season.

Rossi has said that the top speed of the pne-engine should be 5km/h or less than that of the Ducati. I don't see equal effort going to Tech 3 unless there is an all out push to win the Manufactures championship this year by Yamaha - by fielding as many a competitive machine as possible... who knows we will see.
