The end to a 14 year winning streak!!!

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (phleg @ Apr 23 2007, 03:45 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Not exactly true.

You can pretty much bet on who will win week-in-week-out in GP's, the same for WSBK (only due to talent gap).

But you have to accept there would be a lot more teams fighting for wins if there was a level tyre field.

I'm not so sure about this. For a start Frosty was right, name me another bike racing series where the top 12 can qualify within one second of each other.

Also, a level playing field in tires may not make more teams fight for wins, i mean plenty of guys run bridegstones in motogp, but the order of those teams is fairly consistent. Or go one step further and make one specification of tire, and not all the riders would be able to fully exploit the tire for their style and it may even be more spaced out racing. Its all about competition.

Well, it has only been one race so far that has been so successful with Bridgestone. In my opinion, Michelin just got the tyres for that race. They'll want to beat Bridgestone in the next race.

Unfortunately for michelin there is a fair chance of a bridgestone win at the next race with ducatis as the long straight will favour them.

Pedrosa will have something to say about that.

That's true, but don't forget that Shanghai has a few curves and corners and from yesterdays race, you can tell that the Fiat Yamaha and Pramac D'Antin have the power

I think he is the only one in with a chance of challenging them really. He won there last year i think and his weight helps the top speed of the honda and down the straight at turkey he was the only one with a top speed as fast as the 4 ducatis.

As good as Valentino is, the yamaha is too slow down the straight so i think he will probably (assuming no retirements/problems) have to settle for 4th at best.

No, the Yamaha's not slow going down the straights, it's just the Ducati's make it seem that way

And as far as Dani is concerned, he's injured and they're hoping that he will be ok. Apart from that, he's proved to people that he can have this 'weight advantage', but still go fast on a 990, which must be harder for him to use

Maybe they should let the riders use both michelins and bridgestones!! and pick which works best for them at each track

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (roger-m @ Apr 23 2007, 12:35 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>of course it has everything to do with it. that what protoypes are about, testing new things till destruction then examining it and making it beter for eventual use by us mear mortals. hence the duel compound tyre haystack is advertising.

I know that is what prototypes are for, and it may eventually be good for buyers. However, the prototype tires don't necessarily add anything to the quality of the actual races.

The news is good on Pedrosa as they have said no fractures and only bruising and basically he will be fine for the next race as it will have healed by end of the week.

That was a strange thing, but Jacque knocked Pedrosa off with his back tyre and knocked off Edwards (I think) with his front

really. so u must be making buckets of $ betting on the predictable gp's a. seein how out of the last 8 races we've had 7 different winners. but u new who was gonna win every race i guess.

I’m not sure about “One tire manufacture may be the answer”… Competition is always good, it’s a shame you can loose a race from it. But maybe using the possibility to have one rider on one tyre and the other one in other (like it did happen with Tamada/Bridgestone & Biaggi/Michelin back in Camel/Honda) could help out some Teams, and keeps the Competition going.

Pickup the pace Dunlop and step in Pirelli...

Bridgestone may not win the tire war this year but they will in a few years time... they are already major tire suppliers... with their reputation in front end feel (except for Melandri's case)... other teams may be looking at their direction.

It is Michelin's belief to not race in single tire supplier racing.
Thats is why they did not bid for the F1 job or the WSBK job.
No one got fired for "pulling the plug" on those programs, just relocated to another section of the company or laid off.

But it is in the company princicples not to race in those conditions.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Tom @ Apr 23 2007, 12:29 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Brisgestone had Michelin beaten this weekend regardless of crashes, however i think it'll go the other way on some weekends and overall be a tight battle. I think the difference will be how the riders and teams go when they havn't got the best tire.

So true. I don't think Michelin will make that mistake again (they better not). Apart from China, with a long straight, the following 4 races have been a Michelin track.

It is going to get interesting.
