Had a few days off to follow the WRC Welsh Rally UK with an obvious interest in a Ford Focus with #46 on the side. After a very cautious start(45th after the 1st stage)so he didn't crash out on the first stage as he did in 2002 , Rossi has slowly climbed up the leader board up to a very respectable 15th place.
The conditions have been horrendous with rain on sheet ice and minus temps, far cry from the Monza rally .
Never been a suck up fan of his before nonetheless his manner with the public is fantastic, always signing autograghs, smiling through a 1000 microphones as soon as the door is open.
It must be a bit annoying for Sebastien Loeb, multi world champion to play second fiddle to a relative newbie

Loeb is familiar with being in the shadow of great motorcyclers, he has been playing second fiddle to another motorcycle great, Travis Pastrana, here in the States.

(who has actually kicked his ... several times at his own game)

I'm not taking about fannying around some stadium track for the fans, Pastrana would be murdered on a 20 mile iced up gravel stage.

Anybody can race a car, it takes super powers to race motorcycle.

See my reply ^

The guy is skitzo.

(I'd imagine he made up that topic title so people could get sucked into looking. Its what happens when mommy is out at the strip club and son has access to computer).

Hmm... Maybe if he had taken more chances at the start, he could be closer to points. Still, not too bad at all.

Are you saying they actually raced in a real rally on public roads, and not on a track?

Or ended up in a ditch like 2002

Seriously good effort in the conditions, especially with the inappropriate tyres.

I'm sure he's never faced anything quite like this before so he's had to do his learning on the stages. With the incredibly short nature of some of the first days stages (less than 4kms) it would have been hard to find a rhythm. The fact that he's been getting significantly faster as the event has gone on shows he has massive potential IMO.

I'd like to see Rossi in the WRC in the future, but first they'd need to sort out the ....-up the sport has become. It's bad enough dong a rally of a car park in Wales in December, but bloody ridiculous when they are not allowed tyres suitable for snow and ice. What did they expect weather-wise.

gonna have to move this. rossi ralleyin is not rossi on a gp bike. on another note it's gonna be real tough for the dr. not to be at the top all the time when he moves to ralley or whatever non 2 wheeled discipline he chooses to compete in. an also ran... thats gonna take some gettin use to me thinks

would love to see travis pastrana & valentino rossi go to wrc & go head to head. my money would be on #199 over #46... as a matter of fact i think travis would hand vale his ...!

Brilliant.

So how many full length WRC events has Travis Pastry participated in? Because it sounds like you Yanquis are trying to win it for the Gipper with your hands over your eyes again.

Honestly speaking i doubt Travis even gets close to Loeb's radar

Anyone else find it funny that there are people who will blindly support Rossi wherever he goes, those who will blindly support TP wherever he goes and those who will blindly bash either. I'd be hard pressed to pick a winner between the two in a rally car, but I'd love to see it happen.

I guess Pastrana has been mostly participating in American rally competitions?

Maybe if he goes to the WRC with Rossi at the same time some day.

Yea its pretty amusing. Hopefully one day both will enter the same rally in the same class and we can see how it goes.
