Spies to Tech 3 Yamaha MotoGP in 2010

Edit: CONFIRMED....!!
James Toseland is likely to make a swift but reluctant return to World Superbikes in 2010 after losing his MotoGP ride.

World Superbike sensation Ben Spies has opted to quit World Superbikes and move to the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 squad where he will join fellow Texan Colin Edwards next season in an all-American team.

Visordown's source reveals AMA Superbike champ and WSB frontrunner to partner Colin Edwards in MotoGP

Ben Spies joins Edwards at Tech 3

THE HOTTEST rumour doing the rounds at the moment concerns two of the hottest riders in the WSBK series.

Ben Spies, our sources tell us, has already inked the deal to join Colin Edwards at the Tech 3 MotoGP squad for 2010. This frees up his seat with the Belgarda Yamaha WSBK team, which will obviously go to…Cal Crutchlow.

Spies has been a revelation this year and it would be short-sighted of Yamaha to curb this confidence by clipping his wings and making him stay in WSBK for another season. The same applies to Crutchlow who has been on fire since the season opener.

Looks like another interesting season on the World stage…

will something official finally come out before Estoril.?

He'd still have luck/inconsistency to contend with. Fabi would probably run him offtrack in the first race of the season, then he'd get some tainted painkillers and test positive for something stupid.

Next year will be interesting. Yamaha are really getting all the top riders on their bikes, huh? Soon it wouldn't even matter much if they lost Rossi.

WSBK Qatar Round has been dropped for next year. Or atleast they're about to drop it due to .... attendance. So I guess I'll get to see Spies after all:) Since I've converted 100% to a fan after reading this news:)

Exactly, I think thats why the decision was made. Get spies here now so in 2011 he can ride in the fiat seat. They have him for 2 years, right? There was no rush until rossi started stirring up some ..... Rossi gone after 2010 that pretty much seals the deal.

New news or is that from before the doc got pissed?

I think you're half right, Yamaha will put Spies in the Fiat team in 2011. Although I think he will partner Rossi rather than Lorenzo.

ok the nws is from 04th september...i mean the one that says spies to stay in SBK for 1 year then move to tech 3.

maybe im wrong...well, i hope so!

Did you feel the same way when he left honda?(That rossi wouldn't leave.) They will have to butter vale up to get him to stay. If they give spies "factory" equipment and he is battling with the goat. Vale will be even more pissed than he is now. Cant see him staying, but of course anything is possible.

That news was deliberately vaguely worded by Yamaha, and the rumor since it came out was that there was an arrangement in place for Spies to go to GP in 2010 if he met certain achievement targets for this season (namely winning the WSBK championship).

there all picking up on it now..i bet herve/yam/spies reps are busy

Team Texas: Edwards & Spies At Monster Yamaha MotoGP In '10
by dean adams
Thursday, September 17, 2009

Former US Superbike champion Ben Spies didn't seem to want to talk about staying in WSBK for another season after Yamaha's carefully-worded and recent release of his contract extension. A vacation in France after the recent WSBK round was thought to be the reason he didn't want to discuss staying in WSBK for the 2010 season.

Possible real reason: he's not going to stay in WSBK next season.

The actual wording of the recent Yamaha release was a bit ambiguous. It stated that they "(forsee) a season in 2010 with the Yamaha World Superbike" for Spies. Not exactly the most convincing verbiage for a rider possibly on the cusp of winning Yamaha's WSBK title.

It now seems very likley that James Toseland will be replaced by Ben Spies on the Monster Yamaha MotoGP team in 2010.

There are other highly charged political factors in this mix as well. Both Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi's contracts expire in 2010. Yamaha may need as many options in place as possible if either of them are lost to competitors.

I have been saying this all along. Especially since Edwards is there to help mentor the OTHER Texan. It just makes perfect sence. Especially now since they may have to elevate him to Yamaha for the next year cause Jorge is going to need a new teammate.
