Did anyone catch Spies comments after day 2 at Sepang?
He says a top 5 result is possible.

Aside: CEII says this year with the package that Tech 3 has is the best shot as every for a race win..

Needless to say the Tech 3 boys have a few fans this year.

I would say tech3 team got more than few fans this year.

oops.. That is exactly what I meant to say..

go spies! a top 5 it is!

With the top 4 being on the absolute limit to follow each other, I am certain we will see them checking out of a few races here and there.

That being said, I don't think that Spies needs any help

Spies will make the podium if not an outright win. You heard it here first.

I have absolutely no data on Spies yet, so cannot say much really. But Edwards ‘Commonly’ speaks out load how he could win this or that race. I do believe Yamaha has a great Bike, let’s see who Spies follows in development; Rossi or Lorenzo (now that he can take on the task too), or even Edwards or his own.

If Spies continue to progress I'd expect him to develop his own unique set of requirements for settings. "Elbows" are quite special with his size and unique riding style, that's why I think he will have to do his own unique set-up for each track. In fact Edwards might not be a bad starting point but if he is going faster that will require adjustments.

Agree - but one of Ben's proven strengths is understanding his data and the feedback that the bike is giving him and understanding what he wants. He learns circuits very quickly, and similarly establishes the limits of a bike with remarkable speed. Move onto a maddeningly elusive Moto GP machine and the entire process is complicated by a factor of a thousand over the relative simplicity of a Superbike. Spies and Houseman obviously have a very, very good understanding of one another, and furthermore I can see a real reciprocity between both riders at Tech Trois, and either side of the garage...that is until Ben starts finding Parc Ferme on a regular basis

What happened to Gary Reynerds following the demise of JT? I heard that he'd moved to the Moto2 squad, but I can't imagine Colin would want him anywhere near him - even though he's purportedly mended the rift with Toseland.

At Indy last year, Edwards and Toes were sitting being interviewed. They opened it up to questions from the audience, where this guy asked if they had ironed out their differences. Edwards said: "James is cool but his crewchief is an .......!"

Babels, for the record, do you think Spies will make the podium or a win this year? (Just curious, cause you don't seem convinced).

I for one thought that things would be tooth and nail between Simoncelli and Spies given how well Simoncelli ran on the Aprillia RSV4. Spies is totally (I know it's only testing) blowing away the field of rookies. He is blowing away a stable of veterans.

I am a believer. He will take regular top 10's easily and will make the top 5. I don't know about the Podium. It isn't out of the realm but Lorenzo, Stoner, Rossi, Pedrosa and Dovi/CEII/Hayden will have to be off their game as well.

Spies aim for this year has to be to consistantly beat Dovi, Hayden, and Edwards. I think most people are expecting him to beat the rest anyway.
The podium is going to be a hard place to get to in 2010, but with the crazy engine rules coming in to play, anything is possible.
I think most of the podiums will be occupied by Rossi/Stoner/Jorge/Pedro, but on weekends where two of those guys have a problem, there will be a really good fight for the podium, and Spies will definitely be in the mix.

5th in the championship should be a good fight.

You are right, I am in no way convinced as should no one else be. We have seen so many talents fail or disapoint when they are up against the best of the best, so I'm just not willing to commit all the way. The odds are very bad based on others comming from the outside, especially from SBK.

In other words I'm not a big fan but do like what he does a lot and admire his skill. To beat the WSBK veterans first year on the world stage is absolutly fantasic and I loved it.
So, again, I'm not convinced just hopefull that he'll climb all the way up there with the aliens.
From what we have seen so far I'd say he should be good enough for the podium, but if his learning curve continue he could take a win or two allready this year (if he is to become an alien he should be very convincing already this year) and I mean more or less real wins not freak accidents like dovi last year.

Nah, he should be able to beat the non aliens quite often and need only two of the aliens to fail some way. I haven't checked the statistics but I'd say that's pretty good odds if he continue his positive progress.

That is, unless others step up as well.

You will eat your words buddy. I'm not sure why you think others shouldn't be convinced. Especially those of us who have seen the kid win in the AMA and now the rest seen his crushing performance in WSBK (you know this despite the slim points margin, it was dominant). He may not be able to keep up with the top four every race considering, but if he can be consistently 5th, that would be pretty amazing, right? He will make the podium, if not a win (in the dry); then will you find it in your heart to give props to the young American?

Only if Rossi is not involved and helped out in some obscure fasion ie. taking point away from Stoner, Lorenzo

Although i agree that many competitors last year will have found Spies performance crushing given the circumstances, he was not dominant. He came from behind at the last round!

Oh dear. Show me your recete for your HUGE bet and I'll eat my words. Until that your words express nothing but hope and wishes.
Read my post again and you will see that I give him just as much credit and have just as high expectations as you do if not higher. There are no words to eat, I'm just not willing to bet a million dollar on him yet.
As I see it there is no way in hell to know that he can be as fast as the aliens on a regular basis.
Quite a few can have a good day and beat Rossi and Stoner once or twice over a career but in addition to stoner only Lorenzo look like a believable winner, maybe Pedrosa IF the Honda has been really ..... and they can sort it. We all know that CE, Hayden, Elias.... will never climb to that level.
Is Spies ever going to be put up there with them, I don't know, but if Ben is going to be Rossi's replacement he will have to do better than your expectations and even if 5th would be fantastic it's not at all unique when you look at what other rookies have done, although most of them had the advantage to come from the 250 class. So there you go. Not convinced but full of positive hope for Spies.
