SpeedTV: Un-F*ing-believable

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (clarkjw @ Apr 8 2009, 08:26 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>They may perceive Americans as unreceptive to their phenomenal english announcers. Sadly, they may even be right! Kevin Schwantz would be great!
Anyway, DORNA needs to target ESPN, The MSF, and Suzuki dealers if they wanna grow. Most new 600cc sportbike riders couldn't tell you who Valentino Rossi is. Vale and Nicky can walk the streets of NYC and not be noticed. Let Danica or Jeff Gordon do that and see what happens.

Racers outside the US in F1 or MotoGP are like that. Michael Schumacher loves vacationing here in the US, because no one knows who he is.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Hayden Fan @ Apr 8 2009, 07:20 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>The Indy Cars had 223 thousand people watch on Versus! 75% dropoff of their already below 1.0 Nielsen Ratings they had at the same race last year. Hahaha... they are idiots for trying that. Tony George is an absolute ... for thinking this deal would bring his League of fun any benefit.

The problem is that fact that with the Nascarization of racing in the US (pack racing in Indy Car), and the fact that because of that, road racing is foreign to possible race fans. And because of that, and that fact that the US is lazier than ever, the major networks do not want to risk placing the series in the nation spotlight. While the risk will more likely than not, reap huge rewards if done properly, they still do not want to take the risk, because of the small chance of failure.

Yes, VS is a risk, one that will take time to pay off, if it ever does.

My point was that someone is trying something different and actually has a good TV presentation. Why try to promote the bike series in this country with ...... TV?

I see your point, but I look at the TV ratings and a .2 is sad at any level.

They can't promote because, like I mentioned, there is that risk that road racing will not catch on. I think NBC could spend millions promoting MotoGP, and it could fail. Having a great TV deal is not enough. You have to shove it down the throats of every single person. Just like Nascar. It needs to be mentioned on Sports Center. It needs a TV show during the season and off-season daily between Sports Center and Primetime (like Nascar does with Nascar Now) that spends an hour covering the series in depth. But again, because it is easier to not make this risk, the people at the major television networks let it be.

Then why risk racing here at all? Do the manufacturers subsidize the races so that Dorna cannot lose money?

There's always a risk that a product won't catch on. If that was such a large barrier, if that risk means you "can't promote," then how would we have any mass product? Where would the marketing industry be?

At least you still have Motogp coverage. Just found out that it won't be shown live here in SE asia (Singapore). There will only be a 1 hour highlight in Espn-Star

Your 10 pm is the same as his 7 pm. You both have a 3 hour delay. It's not like you have to
wait any longer for the race.

How many people can use the same password for the package
on different computers before they figure it out?
I've shared with my bro for years with no probs.

Not sure. Don't want to push and find out. I suppose if two people are logged in at same time they might have a software program that detects this, who knows. I just held out because I didn't want to give money to Dorna. I'm not cheap, I just can't stand that they don't have any real customer service.

It sucks to have little or no coverage...especially when a possible coverage spot is taken by some dumb ... shows that nobody watches...

I lived in the US for 25 years and moved to Italy 3 years ago...and here its moto heaven.

125, 250 and Moto gp races are shown live with a pre and post race reports. They showed the Jerez tests live, they (up until last year) showed friday practice...qualifying etc... Pretty cool stuff...

Not to mention, close by where i live (Bologna) on a famous road called the Futa, there is a chalet called chalet della Raticosa where they have a big screen tv, and its all riders in leathers chilling and watching the race.... here is a pic of the place. Any of you in the area for the Mugello race..its an awesome ride there...just drop me a note. On any nice day, its all moto...awesome.

Braaap!

Looks like some places we have around here, minus the bigscreen playing the races
<

Just curious, why did you move to Italy? I'm sure the TV schedule was just a bonus

So if everyone is pissed at NASCAR tv for running another really stupid show and pushing bikes off to the side again, write them an email letting them know we exist and think they need to educate their moronic selfs a bit and give us our bikes. I suggested that they need to run qualifiers just like they do for F1. Why the hell not?

I complained about a 10pm airtime for one of the races last season, but then I found that by 10pm, I was comfortably drunk and actually enjoyed the race coverage even more. Just that matter of staying away from the computer all day...

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Jumkie @ Apr 8 2009, 08:55 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>For you Euros crying about your coverage, check this out. SpeedTV, America's premier "motorsports" channel will be showing a 'marathon' of the most ........ show ever conceived called 'Bullrun' (cross between reality/game show with a broken ex-retread WWF wrestler as their host) from 9am-3pm, that's the entire Sunday line-up feature. Oh, the marathon of stupidity will be followed by the "Speed Report" at 4pm, which will undoubtedly give you a 3 minute highlights of winners and losers news about MotoGP (at the very end of the show).

Then at 7pm (west coast), we get the actual MotoGP race.

Anyway for those interested in GP programming schedule for Sunday on StupidTV, here it is: LINK

I wouldn't have thought you needed it on tv mate. You seem to go to most races

Update. Went to apple store and just bought adapter to connect to my tv. Quality is a bit denigrated (analog signal) but I'm happy enough. Now I just need to get wireless router and see if my Mac will place motogp.com's feed. Hell yeah, I feel like I will be living the Euro's coverage dream you boys have been enjoying for a while.

(Note, if I can find a way to convert my DVI to HDMI then I will get the HD version, so far no luck).

Don't you have a Fry's, best buy, or radio shack near you? They have those converters for less than 5 bucks I think.

DVI and HDMI are the same signal with different connectors (plus HDMI carries audio as well). All you should need is a cheap adapter.
