rip. I envy riders or racers who go down doing what they do best or living a dream. I feel bad for his family. Atleast he wasn't afraid to live. Unlike many who are dead already and think they are living.

May he rest in peace. Its tough to look at that splash picture on motogp.com, especially since he has Kato's number on the shoulder.

Please no more racing on September 5th. First Rainey and now even worse with Tomizawa. Surely Japan's next great world champion. Regards to the family.

Damn this sucks. I guess I'm sorta glad that Ive been to busy to watch the races lately. Than again once you learn of accidents like this, it still hits you very hard. RIP Shoya! You left behind many many fans. God speed!

I guess when I typing this post another was being posted. Maybe we could have them merge into one.

I think its more appropriate they are kept seperate, as there is already a division between those who wish to simply remember Tomi and wish his friends and family well, and those who deal with this tragedy by trying to place blame and/or responsibility as soon as possible.

And it is always the same people making barbed comments. Why inflame such division if you perceive it to be there?

I see this dreadful accident as a horrific replay of Suzuka. Perhaps my ire is misplaced and for that I am genuinely sorry. But it is a genuine reaction of indignation an outrage towards race direction. Please I implore you to read the posts in detail before trying yet again to falsely assume the moral high ground. Look again at the other thread, and the race thread. There is provision for both - and I think that the pouring of emotions over a sport that we are all passionate about is only natural. There is simply disbelief that the race was not red flagged. I'm afraid that yet again that responsibility for that lay in the hands of Paul Butler.

Couldn't agree more

R.I.P. Shoya Tomizawa.

Please, i personally (and i don't think i'm alone) think its too soon for any this. I'm not saying that nothing productive will come from the other thread, but can we just keep it there for now and the rest of us can get involved as/when we think its appropriate

Wow, I'm crestfallen. My condolences. A lot of fans think of Asian racers (in any motorsport) as pay racers (justified or not), but Tomizawa seemed to break that stereotype. He had talent.

that picture was a bit too freaky for me. It was like Kato was coming to get him so they could race off together to heaven.

RIP #48

i was up early for the live feed.. the crash was bad.. i had just finished a chuckle of a "Alex De Angrous" comment.. then it went down.. not till mid Moto GP race did they report Shoya Tomizawa had died..

any report on how Alex and Redding are doing?

Scott Redding escaped serious injury in the Moto2 crash that claimed that life of Shoya Tomizawa, and has been released from the medical centre with 10 stitches to a laceration in his back. The British rider and Alex de Angelis both hit Tomizawa when he fell in front of them as they battled in the top six during the Misano Moto2 race this morning. Tomizawa was pronounced dead in hospital two hours later, having suffered severe chest, head and abdominal injuries.

Both de Angelis and Redding were sent flying through the air in the accident, and while de Angelis was able to walk away, Redding was taken from the scene by stretcher and required treatment to the cut to his back.

"Scott's crash was a big one, so we are thankful that the only injury he sustained was a minor laceration on his back," said Michael Bartholemy, head of the Marc VDS team that runs Redding's Moto2 programme.

"We were deeply saddened by the news that Shoya Tomizawa succumbed to the injuries sustained in a crash during today's Moto2 race. He was a respected rival and will be sorely missed in the paddock. Like everyone in the Marc VDS Racing team, my thoughts are with his family and friends at this time."
