Good to see De Puniet clocking some fast ones, and Checa, considering his handicaps (Bike, tyres, ect). Still both of 'em beatin' Stoner.

Camel Yamaha´s riders where once again in the top half of the lap time table on the first day of tests in Sepang, once again showing themselves to be in good form.

Colin Edwards, third fastest of the day, was very pleased with the return to Malaysia, at a circuit which he says allowed him to fine tune his M1 comfortably. Teammate Valentino Rossi also spoke about the improvements carried out on the bike and his preseason development, but also indicated that the M1´s chattering problem had returned. It was particularly evident in the large bends of the Sepang Circuit, but the reigning World Champion still rode the fifth fastest lap.

Here is a picture (new HRC colours) plus news from the test

The new leathers and designs that will adorn Nicky Hayden and Dani Pedrosa and their bike in 2006 have been unveiled by Repsol Honda. Those present at the first day of MotoGP testing in Sepang were gifted the sight of the Spaniard wearing the team colours for the first time, a mixture of white and navy blue together with the petrol company´s characteristic orange.

Pedrosa will wear his name on the back of his leathers, but with the Repsol logo appearing on his shoulders it is situated on his lower back. It is also likely that the Spaniard will change helmet colour to match that of his new outfit. The designs to decorate the bike stay much the same as last season, the only real change being the inclusion of the sponsor´s logo above the rider number.

The team have used the session in Sepang to take the first pictures of their riders resplendent in their new leathers and alongside the RC211V which they hope to ride to victory in 2006.

The first images of both Repsol Honda´s bike and riding gear are available to view on motogp.com, accompanied by an interview with Spaniard Pedrosa in his native tongue. The rookie talks about his development and the new bike, also taking time to evaluate the performance of World Champion Valentino Rossi.

“At the moment he is going fast, he´s clocking good times and he´s in a good rhythm, concentrating on his own work and not waiting for others” commented last year´s 250cc World Champion.

news from www.chaz57.com

Almost one second separated Repsol Honda riders Dani Pedrosa and Nicky Hayden during the opening day of testing at Sepang III today, as the factory RC211Vs were seen for the first time in their new-for-2006 paint scheme.

Fastest of the pair was new signing Pedrosa, the reigning 250cc World Champion, began his third full test on the Honda by continuing to acclimatise to a MotoGP machine, honing chassis and suspension settings and testing new Michelin tyres. The Spaniard began the day conservatively and slowly upped the pace to eventually set a fastest lap at 2min 1.89secs from 87 circulations - making him second fastest, behind only Marco Melandri.

"Today was not too bad. At the beginning the track was a little bit slippery but it got better," stated Dani. "We were working on chassis and suspension settings in the morning and then after lunch we tested some tyres for Michelin until the rain stopped us. At the beginning my times weren't so good, but we improved little by little. We have tested here three times and I'm gaining good experience. I still have to work on my strength and fitness, but I think with the time we have we can achieve it. And I've now got a riding position I'm happy with."

However, Hayden was far less pleased with his day - spent further developing the 2006 RCV and testing Michelin race tyres - as traction problems caused by high track temperatures left the American slightly frustrated. He also admitted that his feed-back was not up to the usual standard.

"I'm not completely satisfied with the day to be honest with you," said Nicky, who was eighth fastest. "At the start I just didn't have a good feeling with the traction. As the day went on we kept working hard and chipped away and found some stuff and I was able to get into the 2s (2mins 2secs laps) when it was still really hot, so that was positive, but we weren't where we needed to be today.

"I'm not pointing the finger. We're all in it together and to be honest the rider wasn't getting around as good as he should have, and my information wasn't that great. Still, we definitely got some stuff we can build on - we changed some offset settings which helped me with front feeling in the slow corners," he added.

"This test is very important for Honda and today the track was very hot which didn't help the lap times," said team manager Makoto Tanaka. "Again, Nicky had many things to test. His time wasn't the fastest, but I'm not worried about this, it's a three day test and we have more new things to try tomorrow."

Fresh from their outing in Qatar last week, Camel Yamaha riders Valentino Rossi and Colin Edwards began their last three-day test in Sepang today with both riders focusing almost entirely on ironing out the small vibration problems they have been suffering from lately.

As such, fast lap times were not the aim of the day, but both remained within official lap record pace as Edwards set the third fastest time, behind the Hondas of Marco Melandri and Dani Pedrosa, whilst Rossi was 0.2secs slower than his team-mate for the fifth fastest time.

"Today we worked almost entirely on trying to solve the vibration problems that we have had," confirmed Rossi after his 54 laps. "We changed many things, tried various different settings and collected a lot of important information throughout the day. Now we are looking forward to using all this information over the next two days and we are confident that we are close to fixing the problem.

"Once we've been able to fix it, we will be able to use this bike to its full potential. Yamaha has done a great job and the potential of this bike is very high, it's a big improvement to last year's M1 and I am sure that once we've solved this one remaining issue, things will be very good," insisted the Italain, who also tried a new fairing (middle pic).

"It was seriously hot out there today and pretty exhausting! Today we concentrated on fixing the little bit of chatter we've had and played around with some front fork settings, just trying to dial it in," added Edwards. "We made some good progress and we have a new front-end setting to try in the morning; we hope that this will be the final key. Honestly we didn't really concentrate much on lap times but it seems that they came anyway, so I'm pretty happy!"

"Of course fixing this vibration is now our main focus and today we worked a lot with the entire team to try to find the right way forward," stated team director Davide Brivio. "We had great cooperation between the two riders and both crews, exchanging information and experience and this is very important for the team's progress. We've been working on data collection today and we will continue tomorrow, trying some new things and gathering more information to help us. We've already done many days testing with this new bike and mostly it's going very well, now we have two more days here to continue with our improvement.

I know...wow...he's a wee little jockey..little ....... is going to fly OR not going to be strong enough to muscle the RCV around when things heat up.

I think Dani Pedrosa will struggle race distance around Donington Park (30 lap race)

We will find out by March 26th Jerez I am going

I Dont Dani will struggle to be honest, i think we all nkow he's the next pretender to Rossi! im expecting good things from the wee man!! lol Hope Ellison gets his ... in gear tho and gets somewer close to Carlos!! hopefully its just time he needs, but im a impatient little knobhead lol C'Mon Jimmy Boy!!

I think you shouldn't worry about Dani, he'll make it to the end of the race fine, it's the other ones that will struggle to keep up with lil' Dani.

I gotta admit, he's impressing me more and more..... think I'm starting to become a bit of a Pedrosa fan.

I'd like the lil' bugger more if he wasn't such a product of the PR machine. I want to hear what he really has to say. He has the potential to be a real character being billed as Rossi's next main rival and all. Melandri and Hayden have failed in that department. There needs to be more characters or rivalries in the sport, with Biaggi gone Rossi fans don't have anyone to hate.

Day 2

Kawasaki Racing´s Shinya Nakano put in the fastest lap of the day at the second session in Sepang. A hot and sunny day (although with more comfortable riding temperatures than yesterday), a heavy downpour towards the end of the session once again brought the action to a close, but not before the Japanese rider had clocked a lap of 2´01.08.

The time was an improvement of nearly three seconds on the Kawasaki rider´s first day time, and is the fastest time so far at the Malaysian circuit.

The Ducati riders had mixed fortunes today, with Loris Capirossi again riding fast with a 2´01.87 lap whilst teammate Sete Gibernau only went round 17 times. These few laps were a result of the Spaniard´s suffering from a stomach complaint. Today´s session was, according to interviews given yesterday, focused mainly on tyres and electronics.

Suzuki MotoGP rider John Hopkins continued his impressive return to a circuit which he confessed to not having enjoyed at the last Test in January. He improved on his previous time and went round in 2´01.90. Suzuki have previously experienced problems with the electronics which have made testing a difficult experience, but Hopkins´ form seems to suggest that these have been ironed out.

Another recurrent problem has been chattering on the M1 for the Camel Yamaha team. Valentino Rossi indicated yesterday to motogp.com that the problem was particularly prominent on the large bend of the Sepang track, but today he managed to improve his time by over three tenths. Teammate Colin Edwards was slower than yesterday, but still finished seventh fastest.

Carlos Checa and Dani Pedrosa continued their impressive preseason form, both Spaniards finishing in the top six. Checa improved on yesterday´s time by over a second, and is showing no ill-effects from last week´s concussion suffered at Phillip Island.

The first day´s fastest rider Marco Melandri suffered another fall, but his previous fastest lap remains a signal of his and the Fortuna Honda´s speed and good form.
