This is one of my favorite old helmet design also worn by a ledgend!!

For me this helmet design and the helmet itself (as I had one of these) is iconic. IIRC Bazza added the Donald Duck image as a reflection of his fiery temperament

This whole thread is just so Rossi-wannabe!

Stoner is said to "Pista hands" and what do we find now ....... Rossi Pista.....Helmet.
<
<
<

Probably a good move by Rossi really ....... but god it must stink in there!!

For Christ sake Barry... I yer gonna trawl - do so with some semblance of relevance. This is out-of-left-field, non-sequitorial even for you.

It's like you're drinking the Kool-aid, peeing it out and drinking it again in order to get the most out of a bad acid trip.

No this is possibly the dumbest thread ever.

( Disclaimer: Except for its TalpDubness, and hence entertainment value )

As if any sane person would buy a helmet cos it has their favourite riders colours!!!
<
<

Eg. Off the shelf Shoei helmets may not fit you.

So you would still buy one!!???

Wtf is wrong with wearing a rep helmet baz? U upset cause Casey's Nolan is out of ur price range?

I have a skinny long head ...... thats whats wrong with the Nolan.

But on the cheapness ....... yes you are right ........ the Arai fits me well ....... but so to does some of the Rjays brand ......... guess which one I buy.
<
<
<

And before you try the old "you pay for what you get ........ the Rjays I currently use most achieved the highest tested safety factor. Can't remember what the Arai got ...... cos my head ain't worth twice what the Rjays cost me!
<

Especially when I buy a new helmet, on average, about once every six months.

I have one Arai replica helmet in the shed, and its for the kids to wear on the quad bike, I don't even know who's helmet it was a replica of?? has two big cartoon eyes at the front/back? Uncle gave it to them. They hardly use it anyway, preferring the retro cueball open faces I got them.

It's about helmet "art". Some people like the work of a specific "artiste". Helmets are art you can wear.

Not all of us measure life with a slide rule. Not all of us are utilitarian cheapskates. Why make a violin

look different from thousands of others? Esthetics. Surely you can understand that impulse.

Besides... it's cheaper to wear a Troy Bayliss helmet than it is to erect a statue in his honor in the park

in front of City Hall.

Well keep trying and you'll get there

Wait a minute!! WTF is art about taking a stock constructed helmet and stamping the same design on them thousands of times over!???

Sure its marketing people art, in dreaming up a scheme to get more from the masses than they would otherwise pay ..... is that the art you mean?
<
<

Art !! my arse!!

And what is "Esthetics" ?? the study of soap? maybe you mean "Aesthetics", though given the subject I doubt it? these things do not "look good", they just look "wannabe" and when has that ever been a good thing, visually or otherwise?

If an individual designed their own graphics for a helmet, in admiration/respect/whatever, of something or someone, that may be art ........ but buying a helmet which is one of thousands is just "wannabe". Like going to a football match with your teams colours and banner.

I know all this, cos I think I have been a Stig Wannabe quite a few times
<
<
<
Matter of fact when the kids were small I used to give the kids a whiteboard marker and a white helmet and tell them to go for it .......

World English Dictionary aesthetic or esthetic (iːsˈθɛtɪk, ɪs-)adj 1. connected with aesthetics or its principles 2. a. relating to pure beauty rather than to other considerations b. artistic or relating to good taste: an aesthetic consideration n 3. a principle of taste or style adopted by a particular person, group, or culture: the Bauhaus aesthetic of functional modernity esthetic or esthetic

Nonsense. Art isn't only art if you create it. It continues to be art when you buy it.

Furthermore - by your standards none of a multitude of great painters are creating art because they put their work on a standard canvas stretched over a frame and ....... that's been done before. As to whether they look good or "wannabee" who are you to say? Riders pay tribute to their favorite heroes by way of emulation. When we lose a great rider other riders wear their number or some associated icon on their helmet or leathers. Does that make them wannabees? When a good rider buys an M1 is he a defacto Lorenzo or Rossi wannabee? No. That's just your grandiose assumption. A great piece of art is still great whether it's one piece or reproduced a million times. You have a very skewed view of popular culture - perhaps because you've never been popular. Not even the most simpering shallow moron wearing a Barry Sheene helmet expects passersby to mistake him for Sheeney.

Wanting to be something is not a crime. Aspiration is generally considered to be a good thing. You wannabee funny and clever.

Can't fault you for trying.

By your lights nobody should express individuality in their riding attire. Everyone should have generic haircuts and wear only white.

Gee... I wonder where you got that bit of inspiration.

Does that make them wannabees? Yes

Wanting to be something is not a crime. Is so too! As is wanting to be popular! Possibly the root of all evil really. You can name a few "wannabe rulers of the earth" that came to a sticky end.

By your lights nobody should express individuality in their riding attire. And individuality is achieved by buying a "one of thousands" knocked out helmet with garish, puerile pictures on it?

but yet ....

Do you wanna ....? You have told me this what 7 times now. I think you had like 11 maybe 12 post in a row with my name in it. Its obvious you are obsessed. Go .... off...Unless you want to ..... I'll .... you old man.

Edit: For all of you who think that makes me gay let me remind you. Barry is a .....

You win no points by twisting the meaning of what I said.

You only contrive to say that wanting to be popular or liked is bad... because it's something you've never achieved.

That's why your only method of garnering attention upon yourself is alienating everyone around you. You fear that if you behaved in a rational, friendly fashion you would be rejected. It is much safer for you to constantly make an ... out of yourself and insult everyone like a bratty little child, because the results are a foregone conclusion. There's no risk involved.

While many helmets are ugly beyond belief, a good number of them are really wonderfully creative works of commercial art. Nobody in this conversation ever implied that wearing one was an expression of individuality. That in general is the myth of fashion. Most people chose a particular design because it pleases them, or because it makes them feel good to wear something well designed. Nothing wrong with the small pleasure of enjoying a design or color pattern that pleases the eye. Only the the most pompous ... would criticize someone for such a simple pleasure.

Arrabi, and Chops bet me to one of the few that do it for me. IMO a helmet you can see from the gradstands (Roberts Sr., Dunlop, Rossi's 03-05 (i think)) appeal to me. Though most (shown at the start of this thread) look like those ugly air brush painted birthday cakes you see in the grocery store.

I'd say the entire Suomy line of rider reps make me gag, except one and that was the hodgson that made me droool....

as for the "pistaGP" I agree with geo about the turtle, other than that, it looks like just a average carbonfiber lid.
