those of u who think rossi aint nothing special,, dr costa, tell me who he cant beat
and why of the greats in the past, doohan, rainey, kevin s, lawson, k roberts, and sheene.. thoughts on this would b nice..

It is so hard to compare riders of the past and present. I really have a hard time doing so because the riders you have listed are arguably the best men to over throw a leg over a motorcycle. If I was forced to pick a clear cut best of the best I think I would have to say Wayne Rainey. In the late 80's into the early 90's you have riders like Rainey, Schwantz, Lawson, Spencer, Doohan, and Mamola. Rainey beat them all. Some say Rossi doesn't have any competition and that is why he always wins. If that is your stance you could easily argue that Rossi is simply head and shoulders above the rest and that is why there are no legendary names he currently competes against. Like I said it is real tough to say but definitely I would say Rainey and Rossi are at the top of the sport.

ooost im a massive fan of rainey and watch vids of him daily only 3 hours ago i was watchin the 1993 season, my stance on rossi is there for every 1 to c

If Rossi was 15 years older think of how incredible those years would have been.

Rossi vs Doohan, wow what a season that would be! I think the days of GP's hard men are over, Doohan getting creamed after coming off and back on the bike after a few weeks with the leg still broken wouldnt happen now days. I think the bikes where more unprdictable then, they are certainly faster now, but I think they where a right handful years ago. Would Rossi have the strength to do the whole season? bring back the 500cc from 95 and lets see who can ride the ........ this is where I think the likes of Bayliss, Barros, Edwards would do well, the have the strength to throw the bikes around and really man handle them.

Yes, the 2 strokes were certainly a handful to ride and the 4 strokes are more user friendly which makes it easier to finish each race for an entire season. That is one reason I believe Rossi sees so much consistancy. If you remember in 2000 his rookie season he was win it or bin it. He had a bit of a crashing problem on the 500. Bayliss riding around on one of those would be a sight to see. For one reason or another I am a fan of four strokes, in MX and SX and GPs, but part of me would like to see these guys ride the screaming 500s again.
