Jerez test times

Pedrosa on top..

but....

It is very interesting to watch Rossi and Lorenzo times. Also Hayden just very close behind Stoner.

Game On!

Interesting… Usual 3 at Jerez (Not a Ducati track), but De Puniet and Dovizioso within 0.335 seconds. Also all the way to 12th within a second!

Pedro and Lorenzo no surprizes ........ its Spain

Rossi and Lorenzo ......... same as end of last year really .... no surprises.

Hayden V Stoner ...... bit of a surprise, but it is really only two races in. However I wondered how the "tamer" big bang would affect Stoners riding style ....... maybe this is what we are seeing. At about round 6 Stoner fans may be pleading to get him back on the screamer config? Still too early to tell.

Spies pulling out was also a bit of a surprise to me especially given the showing up to race day.

Lex will fill us in on whether Rossi worrying about Spies went to a word in Bridgestones ear

As you said in your recent post on the post-race thread and as you, I and others said when ducati went big-bang the risk is that the gp10 is a bike almost but not quite as good as a factory yamaha on which riders nearly as good as rossi can almost compete with him. It is my belief that the same thing will be the case with lorenzo except at occasional tracks where he achieves a better set-up than rossi or to which his riding style is particularly suited. If he does beat rossi for the championship which will involve setting up the bike as well or better than rossi consistently and from his own resources everyone will have to concede he really is extraordinary.

If ducati have gone conservative it is against their previously declared philosophy but they may have been constrained both by the new engine rule and by their major sponsor; marlboro seemed fairly clear about not wanting all their eggs in the stoner basket last year. Unfortunately I strongly doubt they can go back to the screamer this year anyway with possibly only five engines left, and as lex has argued the screamer may not offer anything with the rev limits presumably required for engine longevity under the current rule anyway.

Great race, well done gorgeous George, stunning ride, very rossi-like. Post race celebrations could have ended nicely after the dip in the pond, but IMO they went on a little too long in parc ferme. Pedders did very well- unexpectedly. And vr, well of course he was always there or thereabouts, shoulder and more importantly rear grip issues. His m1 did not look happy getting out of the turns at all.

Nickys ride was fantastic, he is a world class talent who has clawed his way to that result, to beat stoner twice already this early in the season is very encouraging for the Kentucky kid.

As I've said, providing they both stay on it will be the Rossi v Lorenzo show this year again.

I think you missed my point .... a lot. I would in no way compare the Yam and the Duc. What I am suggesting is that a big bang bike is a very diferent beast to the screamer version of itself. Mainly because of the shift in grip balance. When Stoner started saying the rear of the Duc, now grips well in big bang config, the first thought should then be has the front now got "looser"? ...... its looking more and more the case.

Perhaps more and more it could have been that the screamer Duc was well suited to Stoner? The big bang has brought back all the LCR days "ills" ie, the front end problems. Stoner being an ex dirt rider would have dealt with many of the front problems by "loosening up" the back, as we saw on many occasions with the screamer Duc.

Balance its all about grip balance ...... and its not just weight distribution, its power delib=very as well.

No, I did get that, as did mdubstylie. I think they have gone for a bike which handles more conventionally like the yamaha, whether this is related to the big bang v screamer or not. Stoner obviously thrived riding the previous iterations of the ducati and was comfortable riding them at or past the edge, but as you say front end feel seems to be the critical factor for him. I personally think that riding conservatively or overly tactically is not his go anyway.

On the other hand, maybe dorna are just setting up a chase. They didn't really need to cancel that race at motegi, a ducati track.

By the way, I trust you have a long-term arrangement with the vatican to holiday overseas when the pope visits. I am not sure a country with our meagre population could cope with the simultaneous presence of 2 infallible people.

So far George hasn't shown any problem with finding a good set up, and i think it will remain like that, exept maybe for a few tracks which is normal since Rossi, Stoner and everyother rider have their least favorite tracks.

even i like to see Rossi win the championship, but if Lorenzo wins it, i,m gonna like him even more.

and about the Duc's, they were expecting to find a few good setup's in this test, but it looks like they haven't been able to find anything. I hope they haven't sacrificed Stoner's bike's potential.

Its way to early to tell if Stoner has taken a step backwards. He was blazing fast at Qatar, as expected, and he was a little slow at Jerez, as expected. A couple of more races will tell the tale. If it turns out the new Ducati doesnt fit his style, i hope he dont blame it on Nicky. The bike is designed to bring in future talent, not to appease the current teammate. Is there any rule about running both the big bang and screamer. Probably not cost effecient, but what is in this sport
