yeah im with you on that, i mean he has probably only earned that much in the last 4-5 years maybe they got him mixed up with donald trump or italy is running out of tomatoes lol, the media really suck and should mind there own dam buissness.

I guess Tax authorities are the same in all countries. With all the penalites they have the right to assess, they can drive you to bankruptcy.

I'm no Rossi fan, but that's ....... outragous. Yeah we should all pay taxes, but Jesus H Christ, if he owes 175 mil then he must have earned close to a bil, WTF is really going on?

.... the IRS. (Italian Revenue Service)

Rossi is Paid

Other international notables: British soccer star David Beckham, ranked sixth with $33 million; Brazil's Ronaldinho, tied for ninth with $31 million; Valentino Rossi, the Italian motorcycling champ, who raked in $30 million, placing him at No. 11

$30 Million a year

Rossi is pulling in serious cash year after year. The Authorities are pulling that figure out of their butts however... if indeed Rossi has been shirking tax liablilities and has made some shred investments... He may owe a hefty sum after all.

I hope this situation is behind Rossi before the 2008 season begins. It would be nice to see him racing without any tax stuff or F1/Rally car ........ to worry about.

Surely he must be benefiting the country of Italy with revenues from consumer taxes of ticket sales, concessions, merchandise, tourism, etc. It seems strange that the Italian IRS would go after him so aggressively being that he's probably a cash cow for their coffers despite the taxes they claim he owes on personal income. Imagine the extraordinary revenues the country receives from the influx of people who go and see him race and stay a week to leave countless money into their economy? Seems to me they are shooting themselves in the foot. I really wonder what would be the real repercussions if somebody were to do a cost ramifications analysis of the revenues his super-stardom generates for the country’s economy compared to the taxes he’s suppose to pay on personal income. It seems to me some accountant at Dorna was able to figure this out; perhaps explains why they would keep him happy on the MotoGP circuit at all costs. Well perhaps poor Rossi can get a loan from Dorna if he promises to keep racing till he's 40.

you make some good points <strike>gimpie </strike>jumkie.
if i were rossi, i would tell them to go .... themselves and take my money and live permanently in another country.
it sounds like rossi's manager really screwed him over.

While the figure sounds ridiculously high (and surely is) I would say that the reported figure may be accurate with what the authorities are claiming. But, like all such scenarios the first figure is a pie in the sky plucked from the ... figure to grab attention and draw the individual to the negotiating table.

I seriously doubt that the 'final' figure will be anything like the numbers quoted and no doubt VR and the authorities will come to an agreement on a much lower figure.

As for what Rossi may have earnt it is possible that the figure could well be accurate depending on the Italian tax regime and Rossi's earnibgs when transposed from US dollars into the Euro or Italian currency. But what I typed earlier stands, sounds like BS to me.

They put interest on things.

Anyway i don't even think he will pay... i really think he should be taxed uk as he lives here if he hasn't already.

Should the Italians be chasing his ... just because he has a passport when Italy is more like a holiday destination for him while hes in motogp.
