I said that JB would not be in the first 5 people to know and it looks like that is the case.
Are you serious? Rossi would want Burgess and crew to go with him if he has signed a deal with Ducati, it would be very unlikely Rossi would do a deal to go there without Burgess going with him. If by some miracle Rossi signs with Ducati without Burgess the he would be making the biggest mistake of his entire career, so I can't see it happening.
You have mistaken what I said. I said that JB would not be a party to discussions in the early stages and that Rossi would have made up his mind before JB knows anything about it. Not sign a contract but have made up his mind. I said that JB would not be in the first 5 people to know. This does not mean that JB won't be going it just means that he would not have been involved. No big deal.
All the time you've spent on this forum and you're unfamiliar with the expression,
"Win on Sunday - Sell on Monday"?
When Lawson and Rainey were winning races on Kawasaki - GPZ1100s were flying
out the dealership doors. No championships - means no sponsors = no racing budget
and greatly diminished sales.
With Spies and Mladin gone - and no championships - Suzuki couldn't even afford to
bring the 2010 GSXRs into the US dealers, because demand dropped so drastically.
Yes the economy has been .... - but it hasn't stopped Honda and Yamaha from importing
all their projected US spec 2010 models.
What part of winning championships = selling more bikes don't you get?
All the time you have spent on this forum & you refuse to accept the Rossi can sell bikes regardless, see 2006 & 2007. Ago, Doohan, Schwantz etc etc are still on company payroll for a reason, not because it's nice to keep the old boys around. Witness the MV F4 Senna a couple of years ago, & he had been dead for 13 years before that was produced. Reputation & racing pedigree, dare I say even nostalgia are all equally as viable as win on Sunday, Sell on Monday.
You even say it yourself, with the name riders gone no sales. So why drop Rossi, why be afraid to sign Rossi?
Hell, this is all so deeply rooted in crass speculation, he hasn't even sat on a bike again yet. In true powerslide fashion, we are not dealing with solid facts here. You're pissing into the wind my friend.
As to their being on the payroll - that's speculation on your part. Schwantz is still active in racing and no doubt gets picks up a check
for his insights into the current racing scene that he is still much a part of. But I don't see any Schwantz or Dooohan replicas for sale out there.
No-one said they should be "afraid" to sign Rossi. Yamaha wanted to keep him around - but didn't value him as much as a younger healthier
Lorenzo. While none of us have seen a signed contract between Rossi and Ducati - it's clear that Yamaha have not bowed to his demands
to dump Lorenzo, nor have they offered him an equal salary. I'm not arguing Rossi's value for PR - but saying simply that Yamaha wants to
win championships. The constructors championship is more important than the racer who wins it. Japanese inter-company rivalry is huge, and Yamaha are very pragmatic when it comes to taking as little risk as possible and and gambling on an injured Rossi is a risk they won't bet the house on. That much is very clear.
"Yamaha wanted to keep him around - but didn't value him as much as a younger healthier

And now to reply to 2 posts with one reply (Gecko - I hope this makes up for my previous 2X "Add Reply"
And as for - Pedro, if he has to go, might prefer to take Spies' Yamaha rather than Capirex' Suzuki - that's close to being a no-brainer - The Suzi is a dog (slow-dog at that)

In the days of the Shogunate - the local warlords toasted the great samurais and gave them great honors and much wealth - and when the samurais became dissatisfied with the pay or grew distasteful of governent policy - or infirm and likely to be bested by the new kid in town - the shoguns not only cast their own warriors aside like old trash - sometimes they had them killed off just to cut down on expenses. The warlords of MotoGp are every bit as pragmatic. They're not fans of Rossi - they're fans of winning.
Personally I don't think anything is clear & the press continue to muddy the waters by trying to force an announcement at Catalunya.
Re: Schwantz, I used the word payroll, maybe I should have said "heavily linked".
Well when it's announced I'll believe it
