<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Jumkie @ Jul 29 2008, 12:37 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>I'm sure Roger will elaborate. But in a nut shell, you see that these guys are real humans. From afar we see they are professionals and super talented at their craft. We admire their abilities. The thing is, most everything we know about these riders is through what is on TV or what is written, and of course what fans say about them (which sometimes does more harm than good, as I have learned). They become almost like an intangible abstract entity. Ah, but when you meet them face to face, you see they are as human as you. At that points its just two guys with similar interest in motorcycle racing, us the spectator, and they the professional racers we admire. Its an amazing impression.
spot on and nicely put mate.

everybody, please do not turn this thread into a stoner vs rossi thread !

Thanks for the reply Rog and Jumkie.

It seems that most of us get too caught up with our favourite riders and forget that all the guys in motogp are extraordinary talents. There may be a select few that are a level higher again (Rossi, Stoner, pedrosa, Lorenzo and possibly Dovisiosa), but they are all partaking in not only a highly entertaining sport, but one that is also highly risky as well. While I , too, was taken aback by Caseys post-race comments, I suspect he felt ,just as you or I would, after a severe adrenaline surge after almost being taken offtrack by rossi at the corkscrew (I believe an unintentional mistake). Casey was wrong, but can you blame him after a near crash/ death experience.

.......anyway,sorry about the ramble, but I am pleased to see Rog is cutting Casey a bit of slack, as some of his comments from last year didn,t go down well with me. Even Jazcat seems to recognise Caseys talent, but andrew seems a lost cause!

And I struggled to see that Jumkie and Roger would be on the same wavelength, but it would seem that this sport brings us all together......

.....and guys.......maybe come to PI one year.......best track in the world , now that Assen has been buggered up.

and to dispel the myth that 2 strokes dont race in california here are the red bull rookies. now that was a close race.

everyone who hangs on here is a fan with an opinion. may be disagree on a lot of things but like me and jumkie, im a rossi fan he is a hayden fan but were both motogp fans.

do they allow you to rider your own bike on the track (parade lap ) at Pi ?

Roger on the Laguna track. It wasn't easy taking pics, as I was riding next to him, one hand on bars the other on camera. I'll post a bit more tonight.

Parade lap- If you join the barry Sheene memorial ride for 1/2 day from central victoria ( about 300km north -east) you can finish the ride by doing a circuit (s?) but at a controlled speed ( not sure how well it is policed though).

What we do is go to the world superbikes there and the Monday after racing do a full days track day ( called the Afterburners)befor heading home on tuesday ( we take 2-3 days getting back to Sydney along some of the best twisty roads in Australia (Snowy mountains highway. Aussies will know what I mean). I,ve done 2 afterburners now- hard work on the Busa , but then a lot more fun on a k6 gsxr 1000 the following year (although slowish 1.59s though).

Once again. great thread Rog......sounds like this will be one of your special lifetime events. Lucky .......

we had some high speed sky divers gave a show. these guy do real high speed landings. when they get to 1000ft they swoop in high speed. i literally took only a few seconds from 100 ft to landing.

Cool pic with Benny Solis
He's so young he's still probabaly wondering why people would want a photo with him.

That run in with Casey was a classic fish story if Jumkie hadn't had his camera.
Good lookin out Jumkie. I read that story this morning and it was the highlight of my working
day as I kept thinking about it and having a laugh.
Sometimes with all the fanboyism you lose sight of the human aspect of these guys.
I gotta admit I've had my attitude tainted a bit with Stoner after a lot of the crap that is spewed
here. That pic and story brings me back to what I know inside but let slowly slip away.
The brief times I saw Stoner in 06 at Laguna I saw a kid that was very gracious and down to earth.
I think anyone would have a hard time not liking him.
I think the issue is now settled if his chick is with him just for the money and the fame.
After all everyone knows that guys that drive red motorcycles and Hummers are over compensating for having a little ..... Or did we already know that. He is an Aussie after all

A few more of Roger on his parade lap on the track.

Going up the hill towards the Cork Screw.

Well I can't upload anymore pics. Don't know what's the problem. The same .... that happened to me when I tried to post some pics from the WSBK trip to Utah is happening (which I still haven't worked out). Sorry Ben, looks like we broke your site. I click on the 'choose file' pick it then click on 'upload', it starts to think then suddenly the upload & choose file buttons disappear, WTF.

This thread is amazing!!! Thanks so much for posting so many pics and stories. Glad you had such a great experience.

(I can only hope ours is half as much fun at Indy)

OK, I think I figured out the problem. It won't let me upload pics over 1MB. I don't know how to reduce them, so I'll just post pics that are under one MB. (Can anybody help me with this?)

I'll call this one 'Crouching Tiger'. Here we have Rog in a full tuck. Notice how it looks like the air just zings effortlessly around his body. (Between turn 4 & 5).
4141:Speed_shot.JPG]

Out of the Andretti hairpin, Turn 2. (This is where Hayden and Hopkins sadly touched last year).
4142:Mario_Andretti_HP.JPG]

I said I was on my bike and taking pics as we road around the track, well here is an interesting perspective. The bikes in the mirror are my other buddies. If you zoom in, you may make out the first bike as the Spiderman Replica I painted.

4143:Mirror_pic.JPG]

4144:Mirror_2.JPG]

Well ....... A, I figured out how to resize. Here is the bike in the mirror (some of you had already seen it before.)

As you look at this pic, notice my buddy is coming down Rainey curve fairly at pace. Now, for a moment realize who is taking that pic, and what must I be doing to take this shot!

4145:Rainey_Curve.jpg]

Can somebody tell me how to get rid of this last pic. It says 'attached thumbnails'. It doesn't show up in the edit mode.

Really great stuff guys, thanks for sharing the pics and the stories. Looking forward to a couple meet ups in the coming years.

Ok, now that I got the hang of this ..... I'm gonna bore you guys with a few more pics.

Here is Roger (guy in the yellow Rossi backpack headed toward the Cork Screw. (Really, pictures do not do this point justice.) But here is a bit of perspective. Notice the Red Bull sign to the right of this pic. Notice how it completely submerges and disappears. It kinda give you an idea that there is a drop ahead.
4146:Into_CS.JPG]

Here is another cool pic. When I took this pic, I never thought I would be riding over the exact point where highlight films to come will show Rossi dirtracking and later coming back to kiss the very tarmac beneath me. Haha. Kinda cool.

Here's a few faceless people in the crowd.

Ah but speaking of .... I think we all know what ... Roger would like a piece of...
