Rider reoccurring injuries

Rather than make a specific thread about Marc-y-Marc., I sought a more general approach to this thread. Although Marquez is the primary reason. Considering that he has dislocated his shoulder several times, I am starting to worry that we could lose one of the best in the game to this reoccurring injury. Others have come and gone because of health issues. (e.g. Spies). These guys are not invincible. Even VR has been hurt. I think many have wondered about Dani over the years with all his injuries.

Will Marquez's shoulder(s) doom him to a short career in MotoGP?
Is JLo with his clavicle or others vulnerable to their repetitive injuries and an early retirement?

I have had both my shoulders dislocated at least 10 times ( I used to play rugby) along with 5 fingers, a shin, torn knee ligaments, 9 ribs and a bad case of concussion. (hospitalized for 11 days) I played rugby from the age of 9 until 25.
After that I went racing bicycles, before moving on to motorbikes. Medical facilities then were crap to what they are today. They will be fine unless their helmets fall off and someone rides over them.

He can have an operation to fix the ligaments but that would be a rather long recovery period , if he has it done asap after season ends then he should be ok for 2018 .

Having had the surgery to fix the problem I can say from experience he would struggle to be OK by the first test. It's a horrible surgery and recovery. They say three month recovery but it's more 6 before you're close to being back where you were before. If it's not medically necessary for him to compete at the top of his game there is no need.

I''m guessing you were a fly half, a centre or a winger/back? Can't really picture a loosehead prop racing push bikes and motorcycles. (I dunno though - tell that to McGuinness or Mcelnea).

Wait..you're from up there aren't you - which means you're the other code.

LOL good guess fly half, or depending where in the world you come from outside half, stand off, forgotten the others but I'm sure someone will know. It all ended 38 years ago now, I can't even watch it, get to antsy.

Yeah you would have struggled on Saturday against Italy. So many handling errors.

So i heard, mind you Sergio is a damn good player for Italy, such a shame the rest of the team aren't up to his standard.

I wonder why there is no roadracing equivalent of a rider neck brace, like the Leatt, Alpinestars, Atlas, etc. type seen in other two wheeled sports like SX/MX, DH Mtb, etc. At very least a padded helmet neck collar like the EVS, Simpson, G-Force, etc. Perhaps some improvement designs from the back hump to prevent hyper neck extension.

If you live in a glass house, don't throw rocks.

It's amazing how long certain injuries last, Casey Stoner has had back trouble since his early GP days after a 125 crash, kept locking up on him.

I am 195cm and 110kg and I have a good friend, Warwick Waugh (Wallaby, lock) who is just over 2m and 130kg. both of us did road cycling for about 10 years, others loved it when we got on the front of the bunch.

I've had 5 broken collarbones on the rhs (amongst other breaks) it is for sure limiting.

Nothing overhead in the gym and It's hard to get my elbow up high enough sometimes riding mx.

You didn't mistakenly take receipt of a brown parcel post marked in the UK and addressed to Team Sky did you?

Strangely enough in Marquezs case this wasn't a reoccurring injury it was his right shoulder that dislocated. I wonder if having two bad shoulder could really effect him though? From my experience if he gets through the next year or so without popping it back out he should be ok.
