Reasons to miss testing

New Aprilia signing Andrea Iannone has been forced to sit out the final day of the Sepang test, as he suffers from the consequences of plastic surgery he underwent during the winter break. Completing only 75 laps compared to teammate Aleix Espargaro’s 161, he complained about a lack of energy as he battles an infection in his mouth after undergoing a cosmetic operation to alter his jawline.

.... me that's a little pathetic. The guy ends up giving half-assed performance for his employers because he thinks plastic surgery will make him more attractive. The guy is butt ugly, but will still probably end up with a hot wife anyway just because he's a rock star with a fat bank account.

Crazy Joe? more like wet wimp Joe, oh I've got bone ache, I nee to rest, FFS I've ridden with more problems than that and he's a so called professional.
Why don't they swap Smith for him for the rest of the contract, let him be the test rider.

Fighting a serious infection really does put a strain on the immune system and saps your energy. I wasn’t implying that he was wimpy. Just expressing mild irritation over this being a result of surgery for the sake of vanity.

Most dudes don’t find other dudes attractive, but women think he is gorgeous. That has gone to his head and the vanity kicked in after his showpiece left him to go back to her husband. He has shown throughout his career that he is really a dumb individual but this takes the cake. On his last leg in GP, he chose to plastic surgery over honing his craft.

Smith? Iannone has won a MotoGP race. May I remind you no-one can win by an accident, you got to be good, better than rest. A fast rider can lose by accident, a slow rider cannot win by accident.

Serious infection, hmmm when I was in my 20's I had 15 abscesses in 2 years, 2 of which meant i had to have part of my jaw removed, I never missed a days work because of them. this blokes gone for vanity project, its ridiculous, why didn't Aprilia say something, or did ...... Joe decide he's more important than earning a crust.

you have to feel bad for Aprilia, just when they are starting to make progress they loose a rider, or an engineer (Gigi Dall'Igna). its a good thing Bradley smith was there.

One needn't be to be ... to make an objective distinction between a potato faced blimp like KR Jr and pretty boy like Nicky Hayden. Interesting that you keep track of all these intimate personal details on this lesser rider. Did you learn of this on Access Hollywood, or is there some side of you we are not aware of? :p

I see. And which MotoGp team were you riding for at the time?

I have to agree complications from cosmetic surgery are a fairly ridiculous reason to miss or curtail testing when in the last chance saloon as far as your motogp career is concerned, and possibly relates to why such an intrinsically fast/talented rider is in that last chance saloon.

I can't see him being at Aprilia in 2020, he really has gone down the "My image is more important than my results" route now.

To be fair - I'm sure he hadn't anticipated getting an infection.

Of course he didn't but why is a 29 yr old MotoGP racer worried about getting cosmetic surgery right before the start of the season? Hence why he is riding an Aprilia in what will probably be his final year in GP while his compatriots are winning titles.

Iannone is fast, but has a bad attitude that has stopped him from fulfilling his potential. This latest incident appears to show he is resigned to his fate and just enjoying the GP life while he can.

Maybe he’s resigned to failure and wants to do whatever it takes to secure himself a hot girlfriend while employers are footing the bill.
Then again maybe it's just pure vanity. This kind of stuff makes you miss guys like Roberts, Lawson and Schwantz all the more. Schwantz was an ugly little putz, tho back in his Superbike days my ex met him and said he looked like a baby eagle that needed to be cuddled. (Insert vomit emoticon here).

It is a shame that Iannone has gone the way of a total Diva yet hasn't done really much. Boy he had his chance as a Ducati factory rider but we all know what happened there. I would also agree that if he doesn't show up this year and do something to turn heads he has to be on his way out of the GPs. He may ride bikes in some series or perhaps go to a TV network and become an announcer of sorts, but he has to show up and do something. With all the new talent coming up and seemingly pretty hungry, Iannone doesn't really have the time for this.

I am not the biggest Ianone fan, however he does have talent, and had he applied himself a bit more he might still be on a viable factory team. at this point I dont think he will be out of GP next season, I think there are a couple teams further down the grid that would employ him.

That for me is the frustrating thing. He clearly does have talent but we are watching him slide further down the grid and further from the race winning packages, not through bad luck but through stupidity/vanity and a lack of focus.
The stories of Cal's work ethic to maintain/gain fitness, the videos of Marquez and Lorenzo constantly exercising to overcome injury. They show the focus of professionals.
