Pete you might want to have a read at the AMA superbike thread. Hopper is back and the same old excuses prevail. Unfortunately there are those here that still hold him with some regard. He actually got third last week agains't guys that couldn't get a whiff of Mladin or Spies ... ever. Next year he''ll be better. How many years do we have to hear that.

I'll need to have a look at that, I don't follow AMA. The guy has had so many chances and done zero.

Remember Nicky's last win? Stupid question
<
Do you remember why he won that day? CV was running 1st most of the race. He probabaly would have won if not for a malfunctioning fuel pump dropped him down the order. I believe talent always shines through. How many years and how many races did Hopper run in the motogp class.

Not one race can you point out that Hopper did something special. I know he had a .... bike but the guy never did anything special. Look at Verme. He did more on that bike at Laguna that Hopper did his entire career. That race showed me that the Suzuki on that day was good enough to win at that track. Hopper had the same bike that day on a track that he knew better than most of the field and all his pathetic arse could manage was 6th place.

I'm not basing my judgement on that singular race I look back on his entire career and not one moments stands out.

When did hayes beat mladin?

When AMA went from Superbikes to Superstocks. Mladin raced 1 year under the new format. Won every race the first half of the year, hated it and phoned in the second half.Even took one race off because they were racing in a cow field with concrete barriers, and still won the title by a large margin. I prefer to call it, Hayes finished ahead of an already retired Mladin

Official announcement today: Elias to ride for LCR.

As mentioned, banishing DePuniet to Pramac seems a terrible injustice. I sincerely hope he's able to find more performance in the satellite Duc than Asparagus and Kalliokaze could.

Also, I don't see Toni as a significant 'upgrade' to Randy. They're about equal in my book.

Not having a good feeling about that switch.

Elias seems to have more consistency than DePuniet but I do think that on a hot lap DePuniet may be faster. He's a bit crazy IMO

Well, there we go with Elias on LCR Honda. Elias is exciting to watch, I like his visual style (a lot like Hopkins) and he gets in some good scraps. He is very "crossed up" though, too much hip/too little shoulders rather than spine parallel to bike. He'll never be front running consistently in my opinion.

R DeP made some great headway the last two seasons but is at the top of his game. Downward ho from here.

Elias isn't consistent...finishes the season strong when he needs a job only, occasional lightning strikes of brilliance. Glad he is back though, can't think of a lot of other people that should be there instead at the moment, can you?

Lucio Ceccinello must have read my thread. Thanks dude.

Glad to see Elias back in GPs. He deserves it...and I think he will be a totally different rider next season. He'll be on a super confidence high, which in a lot of riders is all it takes. I call at least 1 Elias podium next season!

It didn't slow Doohan down too much.

Well, now you are assuming he would still be fast today with that riding style. His style was pretty much the style of the 80's and 90's, now it has been replaced with something more effectiv for equipment of this era.

Yes the necessary riding style has evolved with the machinary and Doohans style may well not have translated well. Abe had a similar style and never got on with the 4 strokes. But to suggest Mick's style was pretty much standard for the era is rubbish, his style was always individual and extreme. Only Abe (as i've just mentioned) had a similar look.

The two had their own extreme version of the style, yes, but it was still pretty much the standard of two decades of motoGP racing with the ... out and the torso more or less over the bike.

That's not rubish that's fact. You should check them now and then.

You have gone from saying Doohans style was 'pretty much' the style of the era to saying Doohan's style was extreme. So just like that, you agree with me. Ideal

Whatevah. If that's what you want to read into it that's fine by me Tom. I really couldn't care less.

I agree re his confidence and helpful experiences in Moto2's 40 thick grid. Still not sure that he is going to break through into the Aliens unless it is on a wet race with bike changes etc. We are lucky to have such a large number of strong front runners next season! FIVE! Even that second group is strong and fast. Simoncelli is on his way up and fwd and has a stronger bike than the LCR. Hayden and Ducati have figured out how to get that bike on the pace. My take is Elias is going to be mid pack.

Excellent point with the HUGE confidence boost, and the way Moto2 riders are needing to ride to get out in front. Did you guys get to see this picture of Elias' "bark buster?" (Makes me think of Sete and Capirossi's first corner Ducati flip-a-rooni crash fest several yrs ago. We would use these in Supermoto of course, and people have tried to get to use them here in the USA but tech inspection told us they were illegal).

Good to see you back Elias.10916:barend.jpg]
