Hmm, i knew pons wanted to be back on the grid, but i never heard this. I thought he couldn't get onto the gp grid so he was looking at 250 options. Anyway, i can't see why yamaha would block him, i bet he would do better than Edwards. Plus, we all saw Gibernaus retirement interview, he seemed pretty sure he didn't want to do it anymore.

I'd imagine he will be a "works" rider for both years, but melandri is technically a works rider, so they could shuffle him about for sponsership purposes.

Assuming that it's not just some wild rumour, the story raises lots of questions. As Teo said, how could they keep it secret from the Spanish press? I wonder who the sponsor would have been... Telefonica? Why would Yamaha block Gibernau as a choice of rider?
I always thought that Sete retired mainly because there was no ride for him this year.

I was just thinking about Pons today, it was a real shame to lose them. I think maybe they should have a crack at superbikes for 07 and 08 and maybe go for an 09 GP return?

I think Gibernau did not get the money he was looking for, cause I recall Kawa’s interest in him, and not cause there was no ride!
I also don’t think Yamaha would block this move… Getting 5 or 6 bikes on the grid gives them a better chance at scoring points at any given race for the Manufactures Championship, just like Honda with 7 of them. Call me paranoid, but what I can see is; it could have been against Spanish interests, they are all putting too much into Pedrosa backed up by Honda to through it all away, or even divert it with rivals (in conditions to compete strong), or jet with another great Spanish rider… could just be mistrust of mine!

Also Kawasaki did offer Sete enough money but he didn't wanna run around at the back because somebody paid him too. He said he didn't enjoy it anymore, but perhaps if he felt an offer preasented to him offerd him a chance to win races and challange for the title then maybe that would be different.

I don't think the Spanish press is not fond of Pedrosa at all. They love gloating about him.
I'll wait till next week's mags to see what they say about this rumour but to me this is just some invention.
Dorna is a private company, it's there to make money, having Sete on a Yamaha wouldn't harm at all their bussiness, on the contrary they could make more money. I don't see why they would want to ban Sete.
