It looks like Spies may actually live up to the hype at this rate
<

Interesting that the BMW's dont seem to be fully up to pace yet, but the Aprillia (at least in Nakano's hands) is doing pretty good.

(Note- Theres a phillip island race thread in the 'other motorsports' section, maybe it should moved/merged with this thread?)

What is going on with Carlos Checa?

Everything looks great except the BMW's. Not sure if Troy and Ruben made the right choice...

Spies!

The Ducati fest continues. They will be hard to beat.
From what im hearing on another sight, excessive tire wear is a major issue this weekend, especially with the Ducati's and Suzuki's and some of those top times were with Q's and some not.One report i read was that all the good and fun stuff in the tires was gone after 7-8 laps and the last 2/3's of the race is going to come down to who is good on worn tires.

Tracked down an answer to my own question concerning the new qualifying structure for WorldSBK. For those of us the states that don't follow F1, these rules are new.

If your interested,

First qualifying (60 minutes) and second qualifying (45 minutes) will continue to be held on Friday and Saturday respectively, with the top 20 riders then advancing to the new Superpole format on Saturday afternoon - which will run as follows:

Superpole
- The first 20 riders of the qualifying practice on the track - session of 12 minutes.
Interval of 7 minutes
- The best 16 riders of the preceding session on the track - session of 12 minutes.
Interval of 7 minutes
- The best 8 riders of the preceding session on the track - session of 12 minutes.

Starting grid
- 1st row: the best 4 riders of the 3rd session,
- 2nd row: the 5th,6th,7th and 8th rider of the 3rd session,
- 3rd row: the 9th,10th,11th and 12th rider of the 2nd session,
- 4th row: the 13th,14th,15th and 16th rider of the 2nd session,
- 5th row: the 17th,18th,19th and 20th rider of the 1st session,
- other rows: based on the results of qualifying (first and second combined).
