Little Dani climbs to the top
Pedrosa rules with the new 'Pedrosa rules'
(03/11/2006)

The first ever 800cc GP test has ended in Valencia with the downsized Pedrosa being top of the downsized machines. The miserable little Spaniard gitbag, as he's known to his friends, found it just as easy to contain his excitement as he did to set an impressive time of 1min 32.66.
Astonishingly Thumbelina's lap was 0.3 faster than Capirossi's fastest race lap at last weekend race and only 1.6 seconds slower than Rossi's pole position time.
"We're very happy on two accounts" beamed some HRC geezer "Firstly with Dani's time and secondly with the fact we managed to sucker you mugs into changing the rules in our favour on the grounds of 'safety'. I mean, what were you thinking?"

A mere beer spray behind Pedrosa was the impressive Chris Vermin on the Suzuki. Many had expected that Suzuki with their 'try what you bring' attitude would create yet another 'not there or not there abouts' machine to infest the midfield. However with Vermin's result and Hopper setting the fourth fastest time many were left gob-smacked - not least the Suzuki crew who had begrudgingly turned up fearing a drumming both on the track on and verbally from Comical Denning.
Later Vermin cited his success on the fact that having ridden the 990 Suzuki all season he was already well accustomed to the weaker power of the 800cc machines.

Another convict, this time in the skin-graft friendly guise of Casey Graveller, caused a modest surprise trackside - mainly with the marshalling staff who had specially flown in six extra tractors and a team of military cleansing units to deal with his expected spills. However despite being on a completely new machine not only did Casey outpace his team-mate Leaky Loris and set the third fastest time but also managed to stay relatively rubber-side-down both days.

Although setting the fastest time on day one chumpy ex-champion Valentino Rossi found himself over a second adrift of Thumbelina on day two languishing in eighth. The Italian, who is known for losing her nerve, blamed the lack of pace on trying 'some different things' - which is technical speak for not knowing what the hell went wrong and making a complete hash of trying to find out.
Rossi's dental-friendly team-mate Colin Edwards was not given the chance to ride the new 800 Yamaha despite the American being keen to see which direction the development was heading to use as a basis of his 2007 excuse list.

Ilmor, with the drunken Lepricorn Jeremy McWilliams newly crated in at the helm, became the first team ever to successfully run at the back of both a 990cc and 800cc official event.
"With Ellison gone, not coming last has got a whole lot harder" claimed Ilmor.

Indeed folks...Dani's advantage is indisputable....

it lyk goes in height order lol

Yeah, just because he looks short in a photo means he's got an undisputable advantage on the racetrack. I can buy that.

And that gives him an undisputable advantage? At what? Limbo? It's like he hasn't even kicked Rossi's ... yet and you're making excuses. Gee, you're not worried about what the little guy could do, are you Rossi fans?

I've noticed Pedrosa hasn't 'beat' Rossi in a one on one fight yet...but hey, he can't overtake according to a few sources.

You have to agree that on the 800's he will have to put up with the same weight, but much less power, and since he weighs less, it's easier on the bike.

NO, I'm not a Rossi fan

Er...I'm sure you have a sense of humour somewhere. It was a joke!
I had kept that pic because I found it amusing. The riders obviously were sharing a funny moment as is obvious from the looks on their faces. They were probably picking on little Dani and Marco. Marco and Elias are almost as tiny as Dani...nobody's saying they're going to carry away the championship next year. People just like picking on Dani because he's so pick-onable!

And yes I am a Rossi fan. Does that make me a brainless ignoramus? I'm not making excuses. I just meant to make people smile. Non-Rossi fans make a lot out of that don't they? This place seems to be divided into the Rossi fans- percieved as total idiots for not having a brain to know better by the non-Rossi fans. And the non-Rossi fans, who .... on everything said by anyone with 'Rossi' in their favourite rider spot. And vice-versa obviously. I try very hard to keep out of the playground skirmishes, but it gets hard to do that when one's intelligence is questioned. I think if the riders think well of each other and have nothing but praise for one another's skills, who is anyone on here to say otherwise? Or to know 'better'?

I like Dani. I followed him in 250s and was delighted when he moved to premier class. The kid has guts. Still remember how he raced the last part of 05 season with a broken bone that no one on his team knew about. His last race he was in so much pain that at the end they had to lift him off the bike (not a big effort that..he weighs maybe 50kgs?). The kid's got balls and never complains. Do I think the new rules will favour smaller riders? Well someone like Hoffmann who weighs 80kgs compared to someone like Dani who weighs 50 could, realistically be at a disadvantage. OK Hoffmann's not going anywhere anyway some might say. I remember watching a feature with Casey Stoner on motogp where they talked about rider height/weight and the advantages and disadvantages. I'll try and post the link if I find it. The conclusion seemed to be that it does matter how much you weigh in the lower classes but in the 990 the bikes had enough power to make it irrelevant. It remains to be seen whether this holds true for the 800's. I personally don't know what threshold of power you have to pass to make the rider weight irrelevant. And probably neither does anyone on here. It's all speculation, but like I said elsewhere, the off season's long and we've got to have something to talk about till March.
