MotoGP rules 2017 on...

I have been thinking about this for some time and I think I bought it up a couple of years ago but we are watching the rule makers decide on what the next 5 years of MotoGP will look like from 2012 to 2016 inclusive. I am sure there will be much discussion on this topic over the next 6 - 12 months.

But what comes after this? 2017 to 2021. Will we see internal combustion engines on the 2017 MotoGP grid or will we see something totally different. What will it be if it will be diffierent? What would you like it to be? Perhaps a new technology will emerge in the next few years that will make an alternative to the ICB an absolute no brainer.

Also will the basic configuration of a racing motorcycle be the same or will we see new chassis and suspension technology, new braking technology, new gear box technology? What will a 2017 MotoGP bike be like?

I guess the follow on to this is will MotoGP beat F1 to leave the ICB behind?

over the top i know but id like to see a rotary engine.concept across the whole field a big mix up

Unfortunately as years go by the rules get tighter and tighter with less room for imagination and engineering, I think by 2017 it'll be some kind of WSBK with "prototypes" that are all 4 cylinder, 4stroke, 1000cc. Suzuki will still be crap.

Best I'm hoping for is for a control standard ECU.

all Im praying for is that those electric-motorbikes will not EVER get passed development stadia. Ive seen them at the nurburgring (wsbk, I know, but it was still prototype stuff) and when they passed by you could still hear the birds tjilp. if that happens, its done

There is only one way forward---controlling specific power output by electronic regulation.

They're already doing it in F1 with the engine normalization or whatever I've been reading about. It has something to do with tuning the engines so they all make about the same horsepower and then freezing the engine and using data recorders and spec ECUs to make sure teams don't exceed the power requirements.

To me, this is THE ONLY way for prototype racing to return to its roots b/c it means manufacturers can develop whatever they want to develop (as long as other technical regulations make sense). Electric bikes, rotaries, clean two strokes, 4 strokes, 5 strokes, whatever. The manufacturers really only make the engines and the frames so they need as much engineering freedom as possible. Furthermore, by throwing away the legislation that causes so much financial wastage (i.e. fuel limitation, displacement restrictions, etc) the sport will always be cheap.

F1 is starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel, but I suspect politics will take over and they will force people to engineer products that serve a political objective (like green technologies). I can only hope MotoGP will not be so stupid, but Herve isn't giving me much hope.

Power output is the main problem the FIM have to deal with. They need to learn how to control power output directly, or they are going to continue stunting development and raising costs.

You and me both bro. Those are the gayest things no matter what. You can make them look as cool as you want but the visceral experience through the song as it were is a must. That lame electric sound shoud remain in a series all by their lonesome selves. Plus now that the global warmig lie is getting exposed there is no real need for them. Unless you like that sort of thing.

2017 hmmm....

if dorna gets its way we will probably be watching electric beltdriven motorized washing machines around the track, or maybe if we are lucky they will use direct direct drive motor's for reliability....

marijke is rite... if we loose the "noise" its done and dusted.

im just sitting back thinking about the filthy awesome noise the 990's used to make

Just attach a playing card to the forks with a cloths pin and you can get all the artificial noise you want. Back to basics

Marijke............bro???? How does she feel about that?

...........and "global warming lie"....................Oh dear!

You need to do some objective scientific analysis ,old son.

I know this isn,t the place to discuss this, but I can,t leave it unchallenged.
Just because we both support the ducati pilots doesn,t mean I have to agree with you.
