After round 1 of 17

Nation (Total points) [Points per rider]

1) Italy (38) [12.67]
<

2) USA (36) [9.00]
<

3) Spain (36) [7.20]
<

4) Japan (15) [7.5]
5) Australia (14)
6) Germany (1) [1]
7) Great Britain (0) [0]

Well this is interesting, because the top three teams are only 2 points apart, and all of them haven't yet realized their full potential. Rossi's crash, Edward's involvement in that, and Gibernau's DNF mean that Spain, Italy and the USA have more to come yet.

Rossi's accident was made up for by Cappers win. Italy should get a lot stronger one Rossi's back on top and Melandri's back on the podium. Still, with a 2 point lead, the highest average score and 3 top notch riders, They'll be the one to beat.
The USA is a surprise. Nicky's podium combined with strong performances by Hopper and KRJR makes them a strong condender. If Edwards can land a few podiums, that would help the cause.
Pedrosa was definately Spain's savior. If he can keep guys like Melandri and Hayden out of the top spots, him and Sete might just do it for the Spainiards. Elias is doing his bit and if Checa can improve that'll help. Cardoso might even score a few pionts to help the spainish team/army.

Outside the top 3, it's Nakano and Tamada vs. Crashey and CV. Fairly evenly matched. Nakano's got a better bike than CV, but it shouldn't take much for Stoner to beat Tamada, seeing they're both even on satellite Michelin RCV's. The battle for 4th should be good.

Hofmann V. Ellison. Both sole representitives for their Countries on less than competitive, Dunlop shod bikes with new teams. Should be a good battle there.

Roll on Qatar!

Think hes half caste

but according to the official entry list, he hails from the states, that's good enough for me.

IIRC he was born in the UK and his helmet features both Stars and Stripes and Union Jack so maybe you should split his points between UK and USA.

I'm curious, why do you Brits call that flag Union Jack???

Hopkins was born in the states. Both his parents hailed from the UK and his sister was born there as well but they moved to California before John was born. I'm not sure if that's the definition of Anglo American but his points go to the home team. Otherwise us Yanks would be splitting up our points all over the place because most of us are muts. I for example am 20% German, 20% Swedish, 20% Norweigan, 20% Danish and 20% English.

thanks for the info, interesting I hadn't noticed that it is indeed the union of Scot, English and N. Irish flag.

If Hopper was born in the US and has always lived there I think he is American full stop.

Ooost you're a real mixture man, but I guess that's common in the US, I'm 90% Spaniard, 10% Italian (more or less).

Edward's mummy is an Aussie, so we could steal even more points from the Yanks if we set it up like that.

Hey Teo, how does it feel to share a small part of your blood with Rossi?
<

It sucks but on a second thought if I've got 1 tenth of Rossi's talent I ought to be a pretty good bike racer.

Thanks, I take pride in my heritage. I like to think it broadens me... just kidding.

Just for the record,. There is no 'N.Irish' national flag. The union jack was a mungrel mixture of 'Saints' flags put together to cover all,..
N.Ireland was never a seperate 'Nation' therefore never had a National Flag

No richo, just like to keep things 'Real',.

I think a lot of the problems associated with the wee field I live in in the west most corner of Europe stems from misunderstood symbolism and a lack of education about their history,. With a healthy topping of a willingness to be ignorant.

There are good and bad folk everywhere……

I prefer to hang with good folk from anywhere,. period
