Honda has confirmed to Crash.net that retired double MotoGP champion Casey Stoner is set to ride some demonstration laps on the new RC213V-S at Catalunya.

Billed as a 'MotoGP machine for the street', the RC213V-S is based upon the RC213V grand prix prototype with which Stoner and then Marc Marquez have each won world titles.

The bike - expected to cost around £100,000 - will be unveiled in the Catalunya paddock on Thursday, on the eve of the grand prix weekend.

Stoner, who retired from MotoGP at the end of 2012, will make his two-wheel racing comeback at this year's Suzuka 8 Hours and is also due to take part in at least one more Honda MotoGP test this year.

Looks pretty plain for £100K. A Kawasaki H2 is only £25 g's and if I was buying a bike like that, ...., A desmosedici would be no contest for me....

EDIT: Do you reckon they'll try and promote it as being only 0.3/lap seconds off the Repsol full factory race bike? ;)

If money were no object - I wouldn't mind having one in my collection. Color scheme reminds me of Spencer's old bike back in the day. Personally - I think most of the new Jap bikes are ugly as hell. Ducatis are purty - but unreliable. Was big Kawi fan from the mid '70s up until around 1986. After that... feh.

The D16RR is less powerful than new 1000cc bikes, but people lapped it up because 990cc GP replica. The RCV is a GP replica, though the illusion is somewhat blighted by the spring valves. 200hp is about as far as you can go with a 1000cc spring-valve engine.

This is what 1000cc bikes should be. Premium GP machines to further the premier class. One or two of the manufacturers can keep making cookie-cutters for track rats, but 10 manufacturers cannot continue saturating the cookie-cutter market.

I have a Ducati with over 25K miles, been super reliable. Goes through clutches and rear tires with some regularity but it's never had a single MX issue. I think 80's Ducati's were hard to manage but new Ducati's have service intervals that are generally equal to what you'd find with the Japanese competitors.

MV and Aprilia have more issues at the present. I looked at Aprilia a few years ago and some forum research scared me off.

This. I would consider an 899 if I were looking at a new supersport (and I couldn't get a good deal on an r1). They have come a long way, much as Lamborghini has. Must be the whole Audi thing. As far as Aprilia, the RSV4 is absolutely ferocious sounding, but reliability would keep me from ever owning one.

Never had any problems with my RSV4 Factory in the three years I owned it. The sound with an Austin Racing slip-on never got boring either.

The RSV with an after market exhaust is one of the best sounding bikes on the road. No doubt about that. Great performance for the price. I'm not hating on them at all. The original RSV's had some issues and I was told by the dealership I was working with that their parts and MX support wasn't quite up to the task at that time.

I believe the RSV4's engine was developed in-house, unlike the RSV before it.

Now that they don't make the RSV4 Factory or in the non-APRC flavour I had, I regret selling it a little bit now.

Honda officially launched its 188,000 Euro RC213V-S road bike, based on the MotoGP-winning RC213V, at Catalunya on Thursday.

The inevitable compromises needed to convert the 1000cc V4 into a road legal machine means no pneumatic-valves or seamless shift gearbox, internal engine modifications for greater reliability, as well as lights, mirrors, indicators and a road exhaust.

But Honda claims around 80% of the parts the same and throughout today's launch an emphasis was placed on retaining grand prix levels of handling and manoeuvrability. As such the chassis, swingarm, suspension, wheels (and injectors) were listed as being the same as the race bike.

Special attention was also made to weight and mass centralisation, resulting in a dry weight of 170 kg for the road bike compared with 158kg for the race bike.

But while the RC213V raced by Marc Marquez, Dani Pedrosa, Cal Crutchlow and Scott Redding has an admitted output of “over 230 horsepower” the road bike peaks at 157 horsepower. However a special sports kit, which alters the ECU, emissions and brakes, raises that figure to 211hp.

Reigning double MotoGP champion Marquez, who has tried the bike at Alcarass, said: “It was really fun because it was like a MotoGP . It was nice to ride. I was able to do some slides. I got my knee down - and elbow too! I was able to ride some corners like MotoGP even without slick tyres. I don't think there has ever been a bike like that before.”

Honda has set up a special website for those interested in buying the road bike: RC213V-S | Honda. Around 200 of the machines are expected to be built.

“I want the 93rd bike!” said Marquez.

£136,000 ($212,000 US) For a bike that has less power than a lot of 1 litre superbikes?! .... that!! Sure, you can get 212bhp, but I bet that's another £20,000 on top for that.

I still get a Desmosedici RR anyday of the week. At least that LOOKS the dogs bollocks (And has more power too)

They'll record the entire session. Then after editing the .... out of it, we'll be gifted a 10 second clip where discerning anything of value will be impossible.

I'd still like to see it though.

That's not long enough for me to jerk off to...I need more like 20 seconds.

More like 200K in your money Jum....

Oh crap, you're right. I missed the pound sign Well then, 200K for that? I wonder how different this is to the current RCV-RS?

Anyway, I hope Stoner can lap the thing Apparently he may have forgotten how to put his legs over it and remember which is the clutch and brake lever....

"Stoner, cuando hizo el test probó la moto, pero está claro que después de un año sin ir en moto, no puede desarrollar nada."

Stoner, when he did the testing, he tested the bike, but it's clear that after a year of not riding, he can't develope anything."

Haha Marquez is now blaming Stoner for not developing the bike to his liking.
