For my money Honda need to win a title, if there is only one engine they will still dance and sing like Hillary at the top of Everest because they're having a crap time in motogp and superbikes.

They will pull out all stops to get this one.

Your thoughts...

i agree.

and yam would be other company that the motogp.com article is talking about me thinks, they're the other alt who has the resources to pull something like this.

i'm not sure where i stand with this. i hope with the faintest of hope that it'll work out for the good of EVERYONE (us included) concerned, and won't be like other changes they've introduced so far...

Honda was the first name who came to my mind as i saw the news about single manufacturer

Just speculating but... why would any one of the Big Four Japanese Manufacturers let any of the others take this plum? Rotax, Ilmore, Proton would be interesting options...

What is the engine configuration going to be? in-line or V? Will the engine displacement remain at 600cc??

As of now: 600cc in-line four.

mcn reported this week, that dorna want kawasaki to do it beings they don't have an official presence in motogp.

Again, this is why I have a feeling is gonna be someone from OUTSIDE the JapBigFour... Yam, Suzi & Honda WILL NOT give up this plum without a big brouhaha... And what happens when Kawi comes back to MGP (trust me they WILL)? Remember this is a MCN report!!!

I reckon they should give it to Aprillia if they're interested. They already supply the majorityof the 250s and they're effectively being kicked out of the class through no fault of their own.

This idea of a single engine manufacturer has always disappointed me, as if the demise of the two stroke class wasn't bad enough.

I concede that for the last decade, the class was owned by Honda and Aprilia, Yamaha winning their last title with Harada in the early '90's. But even then, the different characteristics between the reed valve and the disc valve engines made it interesting. Since Honda suspended their development in the class post Perdo, it became something of an Aprilia cup, Dovi had the near impossible task of staying competetive with Jorge, (which was testament to how good rider and that Scott team actually are).

I will admit that I won't be sorry to see this Aprilia hegemony broken down, but at what a cost.

It's just been pointed out to me that OJ won the 250 title for Yam in 2000 - how could I have forgotten that final show down against Nakano at PI?

Well the Honda 250cc competativeness is an ongoing mystery, and the speed shown this winter by the bikes suggests that bike wasn't as far behind as some may have been led to believe.

Tom, I think the competitiveness issue is a real one... last year just Aoyama and Wilairot were the sole riders, no? Neither particularly impressive... but this year they are both miraculously at the top of the timesheets...

No, last year Aoyama was on a KTM and Wilairot apparently wasn't on the top spec Honda. Lorenzo made the Honda's look inadequate but having said that they were 2nd overall while he was champ. Takahashi did reasonably, but not stunningly well last season, and now we are seeing the performance step up with Aoyama in the team.

On a totally unrelated tangent, try asking a korean who the champions are and they will tell you Daelim and Aprilia. Why Daelim? Because Honda copies all their technology from Daelim. Sadly, seems like misguided views such as this are still quite prevalent in South Korea.

Daelim used to be an OEM manufacturer for Honda, their joint venture being named Daelim Honda. Eventually, Daelim decided that since they already had the factures and blueprints, it wasn't worth paying anymore money to Honda and just made off with everything themselves. Soichiro Honda swore never to do business in Korea ever again.

Hyosung used to be Hyosung Suzuki.

For the hilarious, google Yamuda.

They cheat.

Anyway, they can't choose Honda for Moto2. Honda already run 6 bikes in MotoGP, I'm not sure the DORNA can afford to rely on them more than they already do.

That said, it will definitely be Honda.
