Damian Cudlin filling in for Capirex

With Loris Capirossi out of this weekend’s Japanese GP due to the shoulder injury that he picked up at Aragon, Pramac Ducati has decided to replace him with Damian Cudlin.

The 29-year-old Australian’s only experience on a MotoGP bike has been limited to testing the BMW/Suter CRT bike and he’s never raced at the Twin Ring.

“I’ve dreamed about starting in MotoGP since I was a boy, and until now it’s been just that- a dream. Now it’s become a reality and to be honest, I’m still in shock!mI’m under no illusions about how difficult this race will be. I’ve never ridden a real MotoGP bike before and I’ve never been to Motegi either, so realistically my expectations can’t be too high. I just want to do the best job I can, enjoy the experience, and just see what happens. I’ve really got nothing to lose, so why not? I don’t know what I’ve done to deserve this. I still can’t believe I’ll be replacing Loris Capirossi - I had posters of him on my wall as a kid!”

“I just want to thank Sito Pons for recommending me, the Pramac Racing Team for giving me a chance, and also my current BMW Team for allowing me to use this opportunity. I hope I can make everyone proud that they took a chance with a guy like me.”

Cudlin was previously a World Endurance racer and in 2010 was the IDM German Supersport Champion, and last year also took part in the Moto2 GP race at Sachsenring, filling in for injured Axle Pons, were he finished an excellent 7th.

Capirossi is expected to return for the final three rounds, before his retirement from racing at the end of the season.

Never heard of Cudlin, but he sounds very humble about the opportunity. Good for him.

Damn dude, i thought you followed bike racing, especially AMA. Cudlin is one of Mladins proteges and has raced in AMA events over the years. How the .... he got a GP ride is beyond me, maybe he was the only taker.

Honestly, I have heard the name before, but I wasn't bothered to look up in what regard. I was wondering who would be the first person to poo poo the opportunity. You win. Reminds me of all those that poo pooed Bostrom. If you think about it a bit, which I imagine you haven't, its not like you can just get the latest great talent to 'wildcard' on a GP bike. Then add the fact its on a Ducati. The Moto2 guys all have contracts and aspirations, while the Wsbk guys are racing that same weekend. They're not exactly gonna call up some BSB guy who is getting ready for season finally, and for the most part, the international community doesn't know the AMA exists.

I didnt "poo poo" the appointment of Bostrom, I "poo pooed" him quitting. Bostrom is an internationally known rider with world championship wins under his belt. It must be quite humbling to have to revert to someone Jumkie has never even heard of to ride your million dollar motorcycle..Hell, anyone got Jamie Hackings number. Speaking of quitting. how much you want to bet the Japanese wild card rider dont quit this weekend on the LCR Honda..

Cudlin is a top level endurance racer, is testing the suter CRT bike and came 7th in moto 2 at pi last year

Edit: maybe it wasnt pi, but he did score a 7th in a moto 2 race somewhere.

I'm supprised that Iannone has not been given a shot. I thought Pramak had their eye on him?

Wasted oppertunity on their part maybe? Especially if Cappi is coming back for the final races.

Is Iannone from Australia!!??

Perhaps Cudlins appointment has stemmed from the theory that .....

Ducati + Aussie Rider = a result.

To be honest I think Iannone is overhyped.

Ducati + Aussie Rider = a result - or at least give it a real GO and don't pull into the pits in fear of being lapped

To be honest I think Iannone is overhyped. < maybe but he is fast !

Barry amendments if you don't mind.....

@gemmett: Just heard some Italian mechanics had a geiger counter; registers lower than their base in Italy here. And they realised how much on planes!

Ducati have always benefited from the "she'll be right" attitude of Australian riders. With Stoner they looked a lot better than they were for a lot of years.

I would love to argue Iannone with you over a few beers, I think his points results are a little bit like Simoncelli s they don't tell the story or give you the real skill level of the rider. Christ Barry, I'm completely Australian and generally put .... on wog riders but I like Iannone and he honestly impresses the .... out of me.

It is also the week that some Swiss dude published that he caught a neutrino going faster than the speed of light. They are calling it the Stoner principle

I put this in to relate it back to the title.

Even though it is the wrong thread.

Apropos radiation in the last 6 weeks I have undergone 4 CAT scans, 11 x rays and I think I glow in the dark. If I banged some poor Sheila right now I'd give her radiation poisoning before the clap.
